  • Apple confirms new MacBook Pro models have only slower UHS-II SD card slots

I love how people completely ignore the improvements in the most important parts of the device (CPU, screen) and complain about the least important parts that they will probably never use.

In America we like to focus 95% of the attention to 5% of the problem.
hm… I mean, there's not much to say until we have real benchmarks

I for one am relieved and thrilled that the folks who have been bitching about the SD slot for the past five years still have something to keep themselves occupied with.

Hobbies are really good for mental health.

  • Apple's new 16-inch MacBook Pro charger uses GaN to stay small

I understand why they didn't bring back the flip-out "claws" of the 'naughts chargers, but I wish some accessory maker would step up and make some kind of thingy to hold or store the cable when it's in a bag.

  • Apple unveils 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1 Pro, M1 Max starting at $2499

Wondering what their chip design will be for the Apple Silicon Mac Pro? Maybe another M series but with specific features that allow discrete (multiple) graphics cards and a lot more cores. And will that Mac Pro be this year or next year?
I forgot exactly where the source information came from, but Jon Siracusa of Ars Technica made a copy of the M1 schematics from the initial roll-out, and then supplemented it with "everything we know" about rumors of "Jade C" and "Jade 2C" chips. The first image is the M1, and the second row is the M1 Pro and M1 Max; the rumors were largely correct (although I'm not sure if the faster memory bus was predicted).

Anyway, the best guesses as to what the Mac Pro M1 will be like are in the rest of this image. The real fun is, what will they call them? M1 Uber and M1 Thunderfucker?

Absolutely zero chance of a Mac Pro this year. They couldn't even squeeze in the (far-more-important) iMac!

Loses a multifunction i/o port in favor of a whole series of single user legacy ports. back to trying to remember if F3 is “clear cache” or “split window” or ”run some automator function.” old colors.

sigh. i’ll buy one but this will not go down in history as one of my favorite laptops.
