  • Satechi USB-C hub adds HDMI, 3.5mm jack & more to Apple's 2018 iPad Pro

This isn't a USB-C hub. A USB-C hub would take one USB-C port and turn it into several. This is a port replicator. It would be really helpful to the platform if manufacturers and journalists would be more precise about this.

  • Apple completes deal for music identification service Shazam

Given that they ported Apple Music to Android, I can't imagine why.

I think the bigger question is whether Shazam functionality will get rolled into Music, or if the whole thing just gets shut down. Word on the streets is that they're buying it for their gee-whiz AI and team, not the product itself. Which would be a pity, I use it all the time.

Here's an article about their signal processing, I'm afraid it flies way over my dumb dumb head. http://coding-geek.com/how-shazam-works/

  • Looking back at Steve Jobs's NeXT, Inc -- the most successful failure ever

We're definitely all on the web and even among those who know Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web, few know he did it on a NeXT cube.” not to mention an obscure little videogame called Doom

  • Apple issues AirPort Express firmware update adding support for AirPlay 2

    DLink, NetGer, Linksys, etc..
I agree that those vendors were awful. The new generation of mesh routers though — Plume, Eero, Google Home — blow them and Apple's offerings out of the water. [edit] Netgear has a new mesh line called Orbi, and Linksys has the Velop series that the article mentions above. No thanks, been burned by both companies too many times.

I kind of wish Apple would acquire Plume or Eero, but whatevs. There are good options now, and mesh can extend your home network range without cutting the speed in half with every hop.

  • A history of the iPad Mini, from life to limbo

Now that Apple makes phones with normal sized screens, there's little need for iPadMini. So few people buy them that they are not worth making anymore.
Megaphones are still too small to comfortably read books. And regular iPads too big.

"so few people buy them" dude they're everywhere, hugely popular. But everything they're good at — books, basic web browsing, cash registers — just doesn't demand a good CPU. And with iOS 12 they're even faster than new.

Apple isn't updating them because they don't have to. Sucks, but whatever.
