Apple quietly bought $17B more after record high $24B Q2 stock repurchase [u]
Apart from counting how many outstanding shares are disappearing, I would never know Apple is buying back shares. I see the EPS is rising, but that hasn't stopped the P/E from falling. I certainly do get my dividends but other than that, Apple's share gains are nothing special and likely worse than any of the FANG stocks. It just seems as though Apple's overall value is either not moving or falling despite all those stock buybacks. Meanwhile, Microsoft is absolutely killing it and has left Apple well in the dust in terms of market cap. Microsoft makes being a trillion-dollar company look easy. Wall Street has no doubts at all Microsoft is a trillion-dollar company as they doubted about Apple. Apple had such a huge advantage to stay as a trillion-dollar company but just threw it all away. China is lost for Apple with no hope of getting anything back. India and Africa are non-starters for Apple to make any gains with.Apple should have taken that $24B and bought some cloud computing company to possibly offset all the lost revenue from declining iPhone sales. Cloud computing is a hot market with supposedly great growth potential. Apple doesn't seem to have diddly when it comes to growth. I realize their Services is growing, but barely fast enough to offset lost iPhone revenue. Apple should be able to do a lot better, considering all that cash they have to spend. I had been hearing about all those data centers Apple was spending money on, so whatever became of them. Are they just being used for iCloud? It sure seems like a waste of money to build dozens of data centers just for thatI'm no financial expert but I just get tired of hearing all the talk about Apple's post-iPhone doom and gloom. Apple needs to get into a decent growth business and maybe the stock will be less volatile. I'm sure a growth business would be more effective than just buying back shares. -
Apple debuts new $5999 Mac Pro with up to 28-core Xeon processors
Well, that's it. It's the long-awaited 2019 cheese-grater Mac Pro. This could have been done in 2013. This is something the pros have been waiting for. Eight PCI slots are the bomb. Although I have no need for that much power, I'm happy Apple built an ultimate Mac Pro just to knock the socks off competitors' devices. Some people may complain about the price but I definitely think it's worth it. Apart from NVidia graphics support, it has everything I would expect it to have. Radeon graphics processors are getting quite powerful but they still run hotter than equivalent NVidia processors. If the new Mac Pro can keep them cooler, then that's great. I think Apple did a great job with the Mac Pro this time around. Of course, only time will tell if the pros run out and buy them in quantity.

Apple made informal bid to buy Tesla at $240 per share in 2013
Although I would like to see Apple grab Tesla and keep it going for as long as possible, I'm sure Apple would jack up Tesla prices like they do with their own products. Apple is going absolutely overboard trying to squeeze maximum profits out of all of its products and I say this even as an Apple shareholder. Apple buying Tesla would limit sales to only the wealthiest consumers as Apple wouldn't keep the prices low enough to increase market share. I would like to see more electric vehicles for the masses. It would be prestigious for Apple to take over Tesla (minus Musk) but I'm not sure it would be financially worthwhile for Apple to buy Tesla. I believe the instant Apple bought Tesla, Tesla would quickly lose most of its future value. I believe any company Apple buys will immediately lose value based on the way Apple itself is being poorly valued. -
IHS Markit: Apple shipped 43.8M iPhones in Q1, down 16% from 2018
It's a darn shame Apple gradually priced itself out of the global smartphone market. There's no choice but to lower prices on iPhones because there aren't any features Apple could add to the iPhone to attract consumers. Apple really had a good iPhone business for so many years but I'm guessing those days are over. Apple certainly wasn't able to put any Chinese smartphone manufacturer out of business and each year those Chinese smartphone vendors got stronger by adding more features and building higher-quality smartphones. It seems as though Apple has lost its iPhone business in China with no hope of gaining those customers back. Every year, Apple loses more and more market share percentage. I wonder if that will ever stop. Android, as a whole, is just killing Apple in terms of market share percentage and there's nothing Apple can do about it except to find some alternate revenue streams.
