Windows on Apple Silicon is up to Microsoft, says Craig Federighi
It would be so easy now for Apple to build an iPad running macOS on the M1 chip. Everything is already in place. It would also be just as easy for Apple to build a touch-screen laptop. Apple has so many options, but they're going to milk the profits for themselves. Apple could likely easily undercut all the cheap X86 laptops with a low-, low-end MacBook Lite or something similar and it would be quite powerful. I'll bet those M1 chips are relatively cheap to fabricate although I don't know what the yield numbers are. Well, further down the line after millions of M1 chips have been made, I'm sure the economies of scale would kick in.I'm so looking forward to an M1 MacBook with a dedicated/discrete Apple Silicon GPU. Now that would be a beast. Hat's off to Apple for disrupting the X86 platform. I know Apple isn't going to get much credit for anything special but it should pay off very well for Apple. -
Apple may be saving billions in component costs by switching to M1 Mac
People are always talking about the economies of scale saving money for the company, but it's unlikely Apple will pass those savings on to customers. I personally don't care as an Apple shareholder if the prices remain the same, but I would like to see Apple gain some computer market share and less expensive hardware might put Apple products into the hands of more consumers. Of course, if M-series laptop computers are really compelling in power and battery life, maybe more consumers will be tempted even if they have to pay more than for some plastic Wintel laptop. One can only hope. I know the people at Intel Corp. will say how they don't care if Apple doesn't buy any more chips from them and that Apple was too finicky, anyway.Apple always got blamed for over-heating and thermal-throttled computers but Apple had to work with Intel who kept falling behind in reducing the chip node. Intel would just add more cores and hope for the best. Intel promised Apple cooler running chips and didn't deliver, but it was Apple that got blamed. I'm happy to see this ending as soon as possible and now that Apple is using its own chips that run much cooler, Apple can be vindicated as it wasn't entirely their fault. Thank you, Apple.I know people will continue to say Apple can't innovate, but Apple Silicon for laptops/desktops really is innovation and not just evolution because Apple is going against x86 computer industry standards. AGTOW (Apple going their own way) will likely disrupt the x86 laptop market. -
M1 Mac mini teardown reveals smaller logic board, non-upgradeable RAM
The M1 Mac mini must be a transcoding beast. It should be good for my conversions of mp4 to mkv video/movie files. I can't wait for the second generation M-series chips. Not that I need something more powerful, but I figure Apple's second-generation hardware will have new form factors. Apple had done a pretty good job with Apple Silicon and I hope Apple receives some proper respect from the computer industry and not some knee-jerk criticism because Apple is going in a different direction with ARM-based, low-power chips.

Samsung beats Apple's iPhone in US for first time in three years, report says
That's a good reason for Samsung to gloat, however, the situation will be reversed in Q1 2021 when iPhone 12 sales kick in. With all the other products Apple has to offer for the holidays, Apple is going to have a blowout quarter, for sure. Revenue and profits are going to explode if Apple can keep up with demand.

MagSafe 15W fast charging reportedly restricted to Apple 20W adapter
Apple is the undisputed master of slyly leading consumers to buy more Apple products and accessories. All hail to Lord Humongous. I don't care about fast charging as I would continue to use the standard cable and charge my iPhone overnight. It's not because of the cost of the charger, but I'm satisfied with slower charging. I'll admit Apple's 15W charging looks pretty lame when compared with some Android smartphones that have 65W charging. It's rather impressive to see 1% of charge registering every ten seconds or so on an Android smartphone display. Something like a 50% charge in 20 minutes is just bonkers. And those companies actually provide a fast charger in the box.
