I assume this would affect the entire PC industry and it still doesn't stop Apple from releasing incremental updates to their hardware with more memory, storage or faster GPUs.

Considering congress and numerous court decisions have already deemed encryption legal without the need for government backdoors, it's going to be very hard to put the genie back in the bottle. We can encrypt data and communications today on our own without the help of any company. While I may be subject to a warrant and could be held in contempt for not decrypting the data, no company could be held responsible for doing it if I was dead or unwilling to cooperate.

Given the bad advice they have already followed, I wouldn't be surprised if someone told them to put it in the microwave for 5 minutes to "soften the security." 

if The 5C is dropped It also brings everything up to speed with touch ID and Apple Pay support. Better to do this early in 2016 than later.

It's almost like after years of watching all these FBI shows on TV with their high tech computer labs and specialists, the real FBI decided they should hire their first real computer guy and start acting all techie.
