    Uh, actually, I *wish* they would fix this on iOS.  I don't know how many times I've tried to use my phone when it had decided to log in to some random store WiFi and had it stuck on a dead connection instead of just giving up and going back to cellular.

    What I want is if it decides to associate with a WiFi connection it generally does some simple test to see if it actually can USE that connection-- and if it can't it should ABANDON it so you don't lose connectivity.

    If the destination WiFi would consistently pop up the login screen I'd be OK with that-- but you're depending on the destination router to SEND the login screen and many of them need to be poked repeatedly to even get them to do that-- and auto-join frequently gets stuck on the login screen and you end up with non-working WiFi and a perfectly good cell connection that doesn't even get touched.

    This is so bad I NEVER use auto-join on anything but my connection at home and at work.

    Actually, I would assume this will include the other 5 chains that share infrastructure with Safeway, including Carrs-Safeway in Alaska, Pavilions and Vons in Southern California and Nevada, and Tom Thumb and Randall's in Texas.  Safeway has changed over the other chains they own to the Safeway brand so it now stretches coast-to-coast (they used to have about 12 different store names)

    I don't believe Albertsons is sharing their infrastructure with Safeway yet (they own Safeway) so it's unknown if they will go along with this change.  Would be nice, though.

    Wait, I thought Aldi didn't take credit cards.  Is this a change that also allows them to take credit cards, or is it only via Apple Pay?

    I have an Aldi about 30 miles from me, and I haven't tried them yet because cash gives me hives and I can't remember how to pay with a cheque.

    <edit> Never mind, they started taking credit cards LAST YEAR and I'm a loser.  Sorry for the bandwidth waste.
