The Safari issue only hit you if you had explicitly disabled caches in Safari's hidden-by-default "Develop" Menu.

According to a previous Apple statement, it was an issue with extremely excessive reloads of favicons when the cache was disabled. No end user would ever hit it.

To verify a Time Machine backup if you are on a Mac OS X 10.11 or later use:

sudo tmutil verifychecksums /

The awesome thing about Time Machine is that it can be used to restore to a new Mac or new system volume from the Recovery OS (hold command R at boot), without any additional software or set up.

This is especially important if you buy a brand new Mac. Old full system backups won't work on the new Mac as-is but Time Machine will correctly merge the systems.

(Also, Time Machine has some protection against against things like ransomware thanks to the TMSafetyNet.kext)

No. It only applies to the Mac version. The Windows version of VS is still the full blown VS. the Mac version is missing basic features in the real version.

Correction: iOS 3 and later (on the iPhone 3GS and later) offer mandatory, non-optional full-disk encryption.

T-Mobile already does exactly this. It's not a new thing. The current FCC said it was OK.
