  • Apple retracts two wrong specs on Titanium Apple Watch weight

Apple said on the webpage that titanium is highly sought after for its high strength to weight ratio.

They could have taken advantage of this attribute and made the titanium watch lighter than the aluminum one. Doing so would have involved milling out much more material to give the case much thinner walls.

They apparently did not bother to do this. They just used it as a cosmetic option. If it does not have thinner walls the titanium case has way more strength and mass than necessary. This is a little sad from an engineering point of view and as for marketing; why call attention to the high strength to weight ratio of the material if you are not taking advantage of it?

  • Apple retracts two wrong specs on Titanium Apple Watch weight

You write: “Apple had originally said that the titanium Apple Watch would be 45% lighter.”

This is is incorrect, both at the event and on the webpage they said that “titanium is 45% lighter than steel”.

They did not say the watch was 45% lighter, just that the material “titanium” is lighter.

Very roughly Titanium has about twice the mass of aluminum and about half that of steel.

It’s exceptional quality is NOT being light, it is being strong for it’s weight.

The weight of the titanium watch case falls about half way between the aluminum and steel models.

  • Motion coprocessor replacement in 2019 iPhones may power Apple Tags

Apple Tag does not require new hardware in the iPhone. Apple have already explain how the Bluetooth tracking works at WWDC and at a security conference.

I think it is much more likely that this new processor is to enhance AR by supporting more sensor inputs. These extra sensor inputs might include the rumored third camera lens, headset hardware is also likely to have an accelerometer and gyroscope and there might be other hardware for interaction in the AR world such as a sensor laden glove.

  • Leaked Apple document says new Siri device is coming by fall 2021

First, why on earth would Apple give information to a “grader” about future product plans? Second these so called ‘future plans’ are said to pertain to Find My Friends - an app that Apple announced a replacement for 4 months ago. Some of these so called future upgrades sound like existing features.

The Gaurdian report says that the iOS13 Siri upgrades are code named “Yukon” and that the next set of upcoming Siri upgrades is called “Yukon + 1” and is slated for fall 2021. This gives the impression Apple are planning on skipping a year, no Siri upgrades scheduled for 2020. I don’t believe it.

I think some of the odd details in this information could have been deliberately inserted by Apple’s security people so that they can pinpoint which employees/contractors are leaking stuff to the media.

  • Editorial: Apple's next hardware play could be in game controllers

Apple’s glasses maybe a year or two away. However, there is some speculation that Apple will unveil Stereo AR as soon as next week.

The idea is that Stereo AR will launch with basic 3rd party hardware and/or a Google Cardboard-like build it yourself kit. Developers will be able to use this to start making Stereo AR apps and games and users will be able to get started with it right away.

By the time Apple releases its hardware there will already be apps that support Stereo AR. This will allow the new hardware to hit the ground running.

Apple’s hardware will unlock new capabilities and take the experience to a much higher level.

The basis for this speculation is the fact that Apple already have Stereo AR running in non-public builds of iOS13.
