  • iPhone XS & iPhone XS Smart Battery case leaks out in Apple marketing document

One of the reasons my wife refused to give up to her 7 was that she lived the battery life with the battery case. Only when the 7 cracked was she reluctantly agreeing to a Xs.
Battery life for the naked phone is clearly better but still not as good as with case.

If this comes out we will be first in line to get one.

    Please apple take my money.

  • Hands on: Apple Watch Series 4 Hermes

    On the article.
The watch starts at 399 but stainless steel 44mm with a sport band is £749 so the Hermes edition is only 650 more - still steep for a leather band and a watch face but the difference is not that extreme than the smaller non cellular aluminium models.

  • Privacy not absolute: US among consortium of nations calling for encryption back doors

    flaneur said:
One semi-technical area of debate not yet covered here, or left unstated: How does your phone differ from your filing cabinet, your closet, your car, your safe -- all of which are open for inspection by investigators with a warrant?

The government can have access to my filing cabinet.
However, if I use a cipher for all my files and the only place where the cipher is kept is my head, then the government looks at funny sounding words on paper.

The same as the government can take my phone but not force me to remember my passcode.

There is no security without full, complete end2end encryption.
And as other said, as soon as it becomes public that any government can have access to all your communication, those that require privacy, like corporations and crime organisations will go for their own proprietary encryption and just make an app for communication.

  • These watchOS 5 features make the Apple Watch even better

The only feature that I don’t understand is Walkie-Talkie - having people's  watches randomly announce messages does not seem a good idea in any environment.
I set mine to absolute silent and rely on the haptic feedback to get my notifications.

Also: messages already supports voice messages and I can listen to them at my convenience on any of my  devices.

  • IKEA expanding HomeKit lineup with new smart plugs in October

First I am a heavy apple user - 2 desktops and 2 laptops plus iPad/phone/watch.

And I like IKEA - their kallax series is the base of rectangles in my livingroom and office.

I have hue lights and added Ikea ones. The white ones from Ikea are brighter overall than Philips hue and I find their button design superior to Philips.

Maybe they break quicker... but then it’s a third of the cost to replace them... who knows at this time - only a few years of use will show.
