How AppleInsider staff work from home and what gear we need to do it
I’m surprised not one 27” iMac? I picked up a 2019 model a few months back to
replace an older 21.5. I’m telling you working on that 5k screen you will not want to look at any other monitor - which is what you will be doing ... all day ... long. A close second display would be my 34” LG widescreen at work ... still waiting for Apple to make a wide format iMac). I must also say virtual desktops in MacOS is an underrated feature ... I set up virtual monitors for email, stock trading, creative apps, MS Office and ‘flick’ between virtual monitors - it’s awesome as if I had a line of multiple 5k displays without the clutter and cables or turning my head and using gobs of energy!

Improved iPhone, AirPods availability suggests Chinese production nearing normality
Unfortunately, inventory is building because demand has collapsed. My prior posts to ‘buy on fear sell on greed’ strategy is now out the window... that will no longer work ... this is something the world has never seen. Where will the money come from to prop the world economy back up? Very tempting, but, I for one will sit on the cash I have, way too risky to pick a bottom, just yet. Think about a scenario where US virus cases increase substantially and businesses further get slaughtered - there is more blood to be shed. I’ll wake from hibernation in June to assess, and determine if there are investment opportunities. The Russians are gleefully adding to the pain by destroying the oil market - it’s a perfect storm shxt show. My projection: any semblance of normal will take 18months+ -
Apple A14 in 'iPhone 12' said to be as fast as the iPad Pro
Looking through Geekbench, the scores are equivalent to an Intel i7 8th generation 4core system with the ‘A14’ still having higher single core scores in most cases. Very impressive. Most laptops use an i5 4core - so this processor could easily power a laptop. Where it falls off is in multicore scores vs Intel’s 6, 8 core processors. There is certainly no reason why Apple wouldn’t add more cores to a chip designed for an ARM-based Mac computer or higher end laptop, the same way they juice the A series for larger display (but also larger battery capacity) iPads. -
