  • Here's what it's like when Apple wants to buy your company

    Okay, so yeah some of that is my problem, but some isn't. Apple can be tough to deal with both as an employee and as an acquisition target. I understand how this guy was feeling. I also recognize that they have to be this way because otherwise they will get taken advantage of. I bet there are a lot of scammy, crap companies out there that would love to get snapped up by Apple and probably pitch themselves all the time.  I know Apple watches the CSRs so closely, because in the past too many did a bad job, stole hours, angered customers and generally screwed Apple over. So they have no choice but to be tough and a bit heavy handed. Knowing this is great, but it doesn't make it any easier to engage with them. Full disclosure, I'm 62 years old and was 56 when I worked for Apple.
    CSR is a hellish job all around. You would have had that experience for any large company’s call center. Spoken from personal experience(s).

  • Apple moves launch of macOS Catalina iCloud folder sharing to spring 2020

    Disappointed but not surprised that this feature has been delayed.  It was enabled in early betas, but iCloud was very buggy, with a lot of people complaining about losing data during syncs between devices and such.

    Apple definitely seemed a little overwhelmed this year with getting their OS updates ready for release.  In what has become a tick-tock cycle for OS updates, this year definitely seems like a “tick”.  Better for Apple to delay a new feature that isn’t ready for prime time than to release it with a lot of critical bugs that would cause people to lose files.

  • How to leave the iOS 13 beta program now that it's officially released

    The irony here is that the beta builds for the minor updates going forward are usually pretty stable for both iOS and macOS.  I've rarely had a problem staying in the public beta after a major release, and sometimes you end up being ahead of the game on bug fixes and security fixes.

    This doesn’t look good for Corellium. Looks like Apple has drawn a line in the sand on what third party tools it will allow to “crack” iOS devices.

    True, but the cost of that phone is much higher when purchased unlocked.  If it's tied to the carrier and paid over time, one pays 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the phone form the onset.  Get that same phone cheaper, unlock it, and take off with it.
    That was true when the carriers were doing two year subsidies. That’s not the case any more, everyone pays mostly full MSRP and you have the option to space out the payments at 0% interest. The discounts you get are either sales to clear inventory or through trade-ins. Sometimes those can be significant depending on time of year and make/model of phone. They aren’t as common with iPhones as they are with other brands.
