  • Apple Towson union accuses Apple of withholding new benefits

Unions bring out the worst in people as there is virtually zero risk of being fired. We’re I Apple ID make sure non-union benefits were better than those negotiated by the union.

  • Apple removes headphone jack from new 10th generation iPad

This is sure to bring out the trolls, claiming they will never buy another iPad.

But at this point, who needs the audio jack anyway? You have legacy earbuds? Get new ones. Get Bluetooth ones. Or buy a cheapo adapter. You say the audio quality is too low over Bluetooth? Well, you should be using a high end stereo system, that has both the 35mm and 1/4" audio jacks, not an iPad.
People that work with audio. I will use my iPad Pro for recording keyboard, guitar/bass and drums. The latency with Bluetooth is too high and can't be used to for monitoring what you are recording. So I end up having to use the built in speakers. That Apple has GarageBand on the iPad and this limitation is kind of a bummer. I also get that the people that do what I am doing are in the minority and Apple isn't going to keep the headphone jack for us. Side note, there is a group of people that complain that Logic and FCPX aren't on the iPad.... there is your answer. Both would be gimped by the lack of headphone jack.
Anyone who seriously works with audio buys a digital audio I/O interface. While Apple's mini jack is better than most when it comes to shielding against noise from interference, the quality still isn't nearly as good as a separate audio interface. Combine that with the fact that you can't separate your tracks (so you have to record each one individually if you want to bring them into another audio editor/mixer, taking far more time), and it's really only people who dabble with music production who used it.

Now on the other hand, DJs who used to split the audio output into separate mono channels for mixing are REALLY upset about this...  :p
A phone is not a serious audio device and bluetooth still sucks. As long as they keep a port that can be converted to a headphone jack I'll be content.

  • Facebook is fine when punishing others financially, but cries when others do it to them

To me, Facebook in 2025 will be equivalent to AOL in 2022. All but irrelevant to anyone under the age of 65. And rarely used even then. My 90 year old uncle and aunt have AOL email and Facebook accounts, and last time I visited, they had unread messages going back three years, and my aunt had forgotten they even had a Facebook page! I checked out 2 years ago, and don't miss the person it had molded me into.
That is spot on. I have been telling everyone I know that the cool kids left long, long ago. I have never had an account as I don't want anyone to know what I am up to unless I see them in person or talk to them on the phone or via email or text. Publishing your life for others to see is a terrible idea all the way around. Unfortunately the young ones have migrated to an even lower IQ platform with Tik Tok and to a degree Instagram, which is the next old person platform.

  • Lightning versus USB-C: Pros and cons for the iPhone

"USB C is the future!" - Craig Federini (and everyone here who tried to justify the complete removal of USB A ports on MacBooks 7 years ago)

It's funny how many people here were more than happy to trumpet Apple's removal of USB A ports as a move towards the future but suddenly change their tune when the big, mean, EVIL EU dares force Apple to switch to the USB C port! I like the lightning port for the reasons mentioned above, but Apple has already started moving its devices over to USB C, creating inconsistency within its own ecosystem. Moving everything over to USB C will ultimately be more convenient for everyone and shouldn't compromise function at all.

I find it ironic when people say "just remove it completely and go wireless." If you're already wireless then what do you care about the port anyway? Like the article says, if the existing base of peripherals is an argument for keeping lightning then it's an equal argument against going completely wireless. The argument to eliminate the port completely is more akin to a 3 year old stamping their feet because they have to do something they don't want to than it is a rational argument.

Also, as the article points out, for a company that claims environmental concerns are a priority, forcing everyone to waste 30%+ percent of the energy used to charge their phones hardly seems responsible.
There is a major difference between a company decided to remove a port from a product and being told you cannot use the port you want to sell. Good example of government overage.
