Apple plans to reopen some Apple Store locations in the first half of April
Happy_Noodle_Boy said:M68000 said:It seems a bit too early to make announcements like this, just my opinion. There was just an article today in USA Today that said the CDC reported the virus stayed active on surfaces in cruise ships for up to 17 days. If that is true, such a thing is really significant in understanding how tough this can be to deal with. -
Apple launches $350 iPad keyboard amid pandemic-fueled recession
DAalseth said:First: I don’t know where you all are getting this $350 price, I’ve even seen some people claiming $399. I just went to appledotcom and checked and it is listed at $299. Still steep, but lets stick to facts here.Second: You know you all are going to talk yourself into a major economic disaster if you keep this up. I even read a comment about how the Magic Keyboard was stupid for Apple to release because we were entering the next Great Depression that would last ten years. That’s just dumb. Yes we are in for a few months of rough waters. A lot of entertainment and tourism businesses and staff will have a rough go of it. But overall this is a short term, a few months at most, problem. By summer, August at the very outside things will be getting back to normal. I work for a manufacturing company. We are shipping industrial equipment at a record pace. All of our vendors are reporting the same thing. Grocers are saying over and over that there are enough foodstuffs, cleaning supplies, even TP in the warehouses and being made to meet everyone’s needs. Clear shelves right now are due to stupid people buying stuff for stupid reasons. Indeed, the only people getting severely impacted by this are those that rely on big crowds of people. OMG the NCAAs are cancelled, itls the end of the world. However, if everyone convinces themselves we are in the middle of a huge economic disaster, well they might just bring it on. Yes there are problems, but they are short term. This too shall pass. By this time next year we will look back on Covid-19 as an experience, but that’s all. -
Why Apple's move to an ARM Mac is going to be a bumpy road for some
leathien said:For many it's not going to be a bumpy road, it's going to be a game over.Anyone who has ever been to a developer conference knows how many MacBook Pros are there. If Apple goes ARM, in *many* places MacBook pro will not be a viable alternative anymore. I don't think people who are looking forward to this are aware of how many developers rely on Docker or some other virtualization platform. If MacBook Pro goes ARM, it can retain the name, but for many pros it's going to be completely useless.
And what about TB3? Everyone I see one of these articles, everyone just pretends it doesn't exist. Does Apple have a working ARM TB3 controller? Is it compatible with all peripherals? That would be a major accomplishment. -
Apple isn't planning on limiting CarPlay just to a car's head unit
king editor the grate said:We own an ‘01 Silverado and an ‘01 Grand Am. I had to check Web to learn what head units are. Guess I should stop buying Apple gear and save for new rides.Nah. -
Mac Pro still poorly supported by Apple Store Genius Bar months after launch
chabig said:Mike Wuerthele said:coolfactor said:When you say "acting up", a bit more info would be helpful to paint a picture of the type of problem and possibly help to explain why the support was so awful. Hardware problem? Software problem? Glitchy graphics? Hesitation?
I do expect better from Apple Support, and I hope they read this article.
Repeated here: Apple procedure for troubleshooting this in literally any other machine:
1) In the store, replace the OS. If symptoms persist, then...
2) Replace the motherboard or module.
This isn't a 14-step process like anything else is. It is literally, two steps. By procedure, it is, literally, Apple's simplest and quickest, troubleshoot in-store.
