  • 16-inch MacBook Pro release, MacBook Air updates predicted for September

I'll add that I also have a 2012 rMBP which is going strong (having replaced the screen, battery and internal SSD) with every port I need actually built in (imagine that!!).  The new MBP will be VERY expensive, especially since I will need dongles galore (USB 2.0, HDMI, SD cards, etc) for work, home and the plane.  Still, I'm sure it will be a nice machine.
The current MacBook Pro has every port you need as well. You don't need dongle hell (I wish people would stop falsely claiming this). All you need is a different cable.

I'm sure it will be expensive as well. In case everyone forgot, the 17" MacBook Pro wasn't cheap either (it also didn't sell very well which was why it was dropped in the first place). And, you can bet your ass Apple will do everything it can to make this as thin and light as possible as they always do.
Please tell me what the difference is between needing a whole bunch of dongles vs needing a whole bunch of longer cables? Either I carry dongles for every connection or a whole bunch of different cables for every connection.

  • First look: Mac Pro and Apple Pro Display XDR [u]

Have no need of this, but do love that Apple went back and designed something really pro people can use and upgrade, long missing from the Mac lineup. My one issue is 256GB base ssd is pathetic today in a machine like this and at this cost.

Also as usual we get the base price. I'm guessing maxed out this will come near or top $20,000.

  • Developers sue Apple over $99 annual fee, mandatory pricing increments of $0.99

This is all Apple's fault. After all, they foolishly provide and maintain a well built store to market and sell apps. Not only that but in the most ridiculous thing of all, they actually develop and provide the tools needed for the developer to easily develop the product. Apple is just so greedy for doing this horrible thing allowing them to make a dime to begin with.

  • Huawei files motion to toss ban on US government purchases

The admin needs to lay out the case: documented proof of backdoors. Physical evidence of those spy chips has never materialized, so there’s that.

Its probable Huawei has stolen tech but that’s not the “security” issue being raised here. Proof is needed not anecdote.

On a related note it may be time for Congress to revisit that huge “national security threat” free pass they’ve given the office of the President. Arbitrary actions simply by declaring “security” with zero proof required is crazy. Opens the door way too wide for excessive executive action. Article One is ONE for a reason.
You do realize this was an act of Congress that caused the ban on Huawei right.

  • 2019 MacBook Pro keyboard changes don't look like they're going to do much

Every laptop manufacturer on the planet has keyboard complaints. It's one of the parts that can fail. Nobody has designed a failure proof mechanical keyboard.
That's true, but how often is a key question. Also I'm not aware of any other manufacturer that to replace one broken key requires replacement of the "entire top case assembly -- including the battery, keyboard, speakers, and Touch Bar." That's a $700 repair (before Apple created the repair program and out of warranty)
and takes a week or more without your laptop. That is not only ridiculous it's an incredible waste from a company that's supposed to be environmentally friendly. All for a few mm of thinness. You used to be able to do swap out the keyboards on the iBooks without even a tool. There is a happy medium.
