I've found Face ID doesn't work as well without my glasses. Also I have to bring the phone in front of my face instead of a discrete touch with my finger and glance down at the phone. In meetings and other places Face ID is much more obvious and intrusive. 

I too think both would be the ideal.

It shouldn't work at all regardless of price point. 

Competition is always good. It helps drive innovation and prevent stagnation. It also acts as a price check to a degree. If Apple was alone in an industry it would not be the Apple it is today

Given Chinese user's model of using one specific general app for most things resulting in far less interest in the App Store ecosystem, combined with Chinese censorship and lower income levels for many as well as home grown companies like Huawei making high enough quality copies for much cheaper, I don't see the path to great success for Apple or any high end phone manufacturer. 

Somehow the it isn't broken don't fix it didn't seem to be on their minds when it came to the MacBook Pro's....

Also it's a disgrace that Apple still sells it's high priced machines with a hard drive.
