Apple & Google's contact tracing won't stop COVID-19, but it will help
This collaboration is a step in the right direction, the problem is convincing people to install the app and opt in to allowing the federal government to track their movements.
There is numerous benefits to opting in. The fact that there are asymptomatic careers out there that could be infectious but never show symptoms (themselves) is a huge problem. The technology would go a long way to tracking those folks down and ultimately save lives.
The problem is trust. The federal government has demonstrated repeatedly that it can’t be trusted. Security agencies were given emergency powers in the wake of 9/11 but those powers were never allowed to expire as intended.A variety of agencies have pushed their agenda of introducing backdoors in products and weakening encryption thus demonstrating a lack of awareness (or regard) for privacy rights. They’ve also manipulated data and events to push their agenda of increased surveillance, even when it’s obvious there was other solutions available, or there was real need vs the risks. The feds have also demonstrated an inability to secure data and software in their possession, so there’s no reason to think the surveillance data collected would be any different.Any data collected isn’t going to stay with the CDC, but (inevitably) will get shared with other agencies... agencies with questionable intentions.
This a left me in a quandary. I want everyone to install the app because it would save lives, but I wouldn’t install it myself because of the reasons listed. I’m feeling a bit hypocritical today.
One benefit of this collaboration between Apple, Google and the CDC, is that it might head off an effort to make individual’s locations a “national security” concern. The push will probably happen anyways, but (hopefully) won’t gain momentum because this collaboration is already out there. -
Martin Scorsese in talks with Apple TV+ to produce & distribute $200M film
$200 million wasn’t enough to finish a movie that likely lacks expensive cgi?
Did they buy a casino or something to add realism?
Sounds like a money pit.
......
edit
Wait a minute, they haven’t even started filming yet. How could they have “blown the budget”?

Surface Neo, Windows 10X reportedly won't ship in 2020
I want to see Surface Neo’s scratch/drop test, so I’m a bit bummed it’s delayed.
I have no interest buying one, but I’m in the mood for (watching) a train wreck... that isn’t related to the coronavirus.
At least there’s YouTube.

Foxconn steps up COVID-19 precautions as iPhone production restarts
TheLoneStar said:Who believes this Chinese Communist bullshit? Foxconn, Apple, MacOS (frankly related to apple) is just another Chinese Communist stooge!
The Chinese leadership is certainly trying to control the narrative, but so is the USA. It’s difficult to say what data is accurate (from China) because China lacks freedom of press. That said, China was ground zero for this coronavirus and they still managed to be better prepared.
We knew something like this could (would) happen and yet our first responders are lacking in everything. Scrambling for ventilators is one thing, but lacking masks and gloves reeks of incompetence. The federal government is responsible for preparing for disasters (like this one). They are the ones managing the national stockpiles.Instead of owning up to the mistakes they’re attempting to pass the buck.
It’s the Chinese’s fault. It’s the States responsibility. It’s the Press and theIr flu hoax. It’s the WHO.
Who’s fault is it? Everyone in Washington just needs to look in the mirror.Infections and deaths are inevitable when something like this happens. But, looking at other countries responses it’s obvious that our response lacked leadership, and it’s resulting in excessive infections, hospitalizations, and deaths.
As for Apple, they’ve stepped up more than any other company (not in the medical field) that I’m aware of. If making products in China makes them a Chinese stooge, then does buying stuff (made in China) mean you are one also? I’m not sure anything I own doesn’t have a part or component not made in China. The wire or metal in my house, in my car, in my frig., washing machine. The battery in my tooth brush, car, phone, iPad, laptop, fire alarm. Never mind, the list is never ending.
It’s amusing to imagine you in your bunker. The stamp of “Made in China” on the side must be driving you nuts. Did you make your post from an iPhone? -
