An iPhone 9 isn’t an SE2. People buy the SE because of the smaller size.
It’s possible that Apple never makes another SE, and just upgrades the iPhone 8.

This is a ‘you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours”. Apple needed better integration with 3rd party Apps to make them comparable to Android (to push their platform).The Apps that offer the integration will get the 30% waved. Pretty much everyone will eventually. I’m sure there’s some kind of data sharing arrangement.
The quote below shows what Apple is interested in.
“These include integration with the Apple TV app, AirPlay 2 support, Siri support, tvOS apps, universal search, and where applicable, single or zero sign-on,"

I’m not seeing the problem.Use your devices until they die. The only thing that’s changed is don’t expect parts for them if something breaks. Also, be diligent on backups because Apple Stores might not be able to help you if something goes wrong.
If you’re tech savvy you still have EBay for spare parts. There’s always someone out their ready to make a killing for parts on obsolete equipment. -
