  • Apple looks to rejigger Apple News+ as publishers carp over low revenues, 'unfinished' pro...

I’ve started using the News app after Google corrupted news.google.com, which has been inundated with snake oil ads.

The app on the iPad works well as a centralized place to read the news.  I have over 15 sites its getting content from.

The problem is I have no interest in News+ because it’s mislabeled as “news”.  The content is magazine articles...

I think people click on it and don’t see “today’s news” and move on.  I do think the Texture model has value, but it’s been presented the wrong way.

  • Tim Cook jumps to 69th spot on Glassdoor's list of top CEOs

The main takeaway, this is Cook’s “seventh consecutive appearance on the annual employee rankings chart”.

The yearly fluctuations are difficult to qualify, it could be stock price to his politics.  Bottom line, is he’s popular with employees...

  • Review: iPod touch is exactly what it needs to be in 2019

I haven’t seen a iPod in the wild for about 4-5 years, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I never see one again.

With all the “buy one, get one free” deals or “free iPhone with new line” the iPod is irrelevant.

The only reason Apple bothers is because the margins are through the roof for the old tech...

  • Editorial: New Mac Pro highlights the gap Apple isn't filling

As a guy that will probably never own a Mac, I find the lack of Nvidia graphics cards perplexing.

Apple sells “premium” devices but lack superior graphics.

I have a tendency to buy workstations with mid-level towers/processors then swap out the graphics/HD/memory for high end.  OEM’s have ridiculous markups for things that are easily upgraded. (Or should be)

Apple doesn’t bother to try to get my business...

The new Mac Pro are nice machines, but Apple seems to lose the Mac enthusiasts in the middle.

I think most mid range Apple fans are forced into high end MacBooks, when they might be better suited for mid-level Macs (that don’t exist).

  • Apple's quiet update to Siri Shortcuts brings the niche tool into the mainstream

    Time for a poll:
    Siri disabled
    Siri Shortcuts (active user)
Siri Shortcuts (didn’t know it existed)
    Siri Shortcuts (to much trouble)

    +1 Siri disabled

I always turn Siri OFF.  No use for this nonsense

You guys are so edgy and awesome, just on another plane of humanity. Let me know how I can subscribe to your newsletter.
Slurpy... so you’re saying you’re a Siri user?

I’d consider using Siri for long trips into the unknown.  But, I still have a warning to ‘finish setting up my iPad/iPhone’ and frequently get prompted to enable it, along with Apple Pay, and WiFi.  I hate nannyware!!! If I wanted it enabled I’d do so...  (I do have Apple Pay enabled on my phone)

Apple is probably pulling that same crap with kids... ‘mommy I need your credit card’ Like that’s a good idea....
