  • Amazon, Super Micro executives join Apple's call to retract Bloomberg spy chip story

I don’t see anything influencing Bloomberg into publishing tangible evidence until this impacts their bottom line.  If they stick to their guns, we could see some changes to libel laws or SEC & FTC access to confidential sources and data.
News agencies are often seduced into reporting rumors.  Bloomberg is usually better than this.

Damages are easily quantified in the stock price plunge.  We’re talking about 100s of millions.  I don’t see how Bloomberg can “stick to there guns”.  This was supposedly a year long investigation by them that ended in a bombshell report.  They must have planned follow up articles.  The fact we’re getting crickets is damning.  I assume what we’re seeing is already covered by libel laws, but they’re generally ignored when it’s about companies.  A complete retraction seems logical and would probably be good enough for everyone but Super Micro.

Bloomberg is probably also looking at a fine by the agencies.  They generally give slaps on wrists...

  • U.S. intelligence director: 'no evidence' of Chinese spy chips in iCloud servers

Because we now live in a conspiratorial environment where no one believes the government or corporations this kind of story lives on. Many of us still believe LBJ ordered the Kennedy assassination, the Moon landing was faked, the Twin Towers was an inside job ordered by George Bush. We now have Apple and Amazon on record as saying it didn’t happen and many here on AI don’t believe them even though there would be very serious legal and financial repercussions if they lied. All the government security agencies are saying they have not seen any evidence of doctored motherboards, and Bloomberg cannot provide such a board for inspection. Again, many don’t believe anything the government says because, you know, those jet contrails you see in he sky are actually the government spraying Prozac laced chemicals on the population to keep us subdued. It’s now Bloomberg against the corporations and the government and Bloomberg is to be believed because it’s a ‘news’ source and unimpeachable. Really? Where are the corroborating reports from other news outlets? Do they not have the ability to investigate the veracity of Bloombergs claims or they ‘ in on it’ too?
Bu.. bu.. but didn't you hear!? Gruber thinks that it might be a secret plot by the Trump administration somehow related to the trade war with china. Lol
Link? As to why Bloomberg's govt sources gave them bum info, anything is possible. That included.
Why is it that people reflexively ask “link?” anytime they hear something they don’t like? The assumption is I fabricated that in my head?? Listen to his podcast.

True. Anything is possible. Perhaps the “government” sources were actually lizard people in people skin spreading earth FUD in preparation for an invasion.
I’ve concluded the “government” sources had left for the private sector and were scamming companies with fake testing/security scans.  The fact they “found” something was to continue their business model of fraud.  Unfortunately for them their false claims became public in the Bloomberg article where they were used as sources.  These “confidential” sources will be uncovered eventually as our federal agencies track them down.  Run little fraudsters run.

  • ARM processor for Macs coming in 2020 or 2021, Apple car in 2023 says Ming-Chi Kuo

Arm chips of course. Absolutely happen.

Car? I don’t think so. There is something so cool in a company that can sell high margin items in tiny little boxes that can be shipped via ups and fed ex and returned the same way vs something that has so many liabilities, needs tires, upholstery, brakes and servicing in garages and all the headaches that go with that. Yeah no way. This is the Apple TV all over again.

Let’s remember Ford is stopping car production to focus mostly on trucks and commercial vehicles. Tesla is not making any money really. A car factory? Where? China? The US?

It just sounds like a terrible idea all the way around.
Concur. I am highly skeptical of an Apple Car. I can accept that Apple would be interested in tech associated with cars - maps, infotainment systems, even luxury interiors like seats, lighting systems, HUD displays ot AI safety systems, or even performance monitoring systems. A whole car? As granpaw usta say: "no money in that."
Apple hasn’t even built an Apple TV... as in a real TV.  What they have is connectivity device to connect to Apple services.

Apple’s not building a “car” they’re building a platform to connect to Apple services.  One of those “services” could be autonomously driving you to work.  That service might cost you $2 each way, or be bundled into a subscription. It might even be ad supported.

    Other Example:
You’ll be passing a Starbucks in 5 minutes... Would you like me to reroute, and order you your usual?  Paid for with Apple Pay of course.

Apple would have multiple revenue streams from this... Starbucks pays them, you pay them, ad companies pay them. Example:  The temperature will be 30 degrees next week.  Can we interest you in a new coat for 20% off... People in cars are a captive audience.

  • Apple denies claim China slipped spy chips into its iCloud server hardware [u]

The Bloomberg story seems politically motivated...

There isn’t enough information do determine fault in the separate firmware incident.  It also doesn’t say if Apple resumed using SuperMicro as a supplier...

Bottom line is Apple found a problem and addressed it before it could cause damage.  We don’t know the results of their investigation into whom was responsible.  Was the firmware modified by a third party?  Was it a beta firmware? Was the hardware intercepted and modified after leaving the manufacturer, but before getting to Apple and an exploit introduced?

No enough information... but Bloomberg needs to get their facts straight before publishing rumors.

  • Hands on: Apple Watch Series 4 Hermes

Fleeced.  That’s what people are that buy this.

I’ll admit the watch itself is greatly improved, but those bands are butt ugly.

When end I see orange I think of prisoner garments.  The black looks OK, but without the orange...

For the money, you can get much much better...

I won’t be interested in the Apple Watch until it has at a least 48 hour battery, and can make phone calls.

The heart monitor is interesting, as the sleep monitor (presumably coming soon).  But the phone format is 1000% more practical.
