Review: Amazon Echo Show is 'good enough'
Apple can certainly complete... take the $329 IPad, remove the battery, and add a better speaker and mike.
The biggest problem is Siri sucks.
It's interesting the Amazon had crap for an App Store just a few years ago, but now they have developer support. We'll see if game developers also jump on board.

I'll stick with an IPad. I have wireless earbuds, and have Siri disabled. But, Amazon has become interning enough with Alexa that many people might take another look at their tablets. I'd consider an Amazon phone at the right price point... -
Uniloc continues legal assault against Apple with two new patent suits
IBM has 8000 new patents for 2016 alone. Can you imagine if IBM spun off it's patents into a separate company, and it went troll?
Something needs to be done about the patent system... one bad actor could cause a lot of devastation.
I don't know the total number of patent issued to IBM but it has to be in excess of 100,000.
IBM is doing poorly adapting to the Internet Age. Is it so outlandish that someday lawyers will be dancing in the streets? (With the scenario I mentioned). -
EU hammers Google with record $2.7 billion antitrust fine for illegal search manipulation
When I type in things to buy (buy cat food, buy couch) no where does it say Google Shopping. I get places like Amazon or local places that sell those things.
I think the EU is trying to make up a from a budget Shortfall...
Google gives the results I want to see. Just because all the other search engines are crap, that's not Google's problem.
I think in a board that is anti Google that people are overwhelmingly in favor of Google Search is pretty telling. -
Apple drops to 5th place in LaptopMag's brand rankings after leading for multiple years
Sounds about right...
Though I dont care as much about the ports, the Pro model needs them. Dongs work better and are more acceptable on machines with smaller screens (Air versions).
The Air / 12" and below models really need to move to the Ax ARM chip, and the Pro versions with larger screens have (more powerful) Intel processors.
A transformer sub 12" model would be useful as long as it's OS X (which would be complicated).
Apple has done a poor job pricing laptops... (agreed)
I currently have an Android phone + IPad + cheep PC
I'd rather have a transformer 10.5 - 12" + large screen IPhone.

Is Apple getting Siri-ous in the face of Amazon's Alexa Echo?
I have Siri disabled on my IPad. I can see it being useful built into my next vehicle (purchase) but that's about it.
Amazon found a good niche with Alexa devices. They were a bit hit at Christmas. I bought 3 Dots (nieces & nephew) and an Echo for mom. They're all getting a ton of use. Why are they successful? Price is number one, there is no way Apple devices make good Christmas gifts unless you're loaded.
Also, my sister and mom already have Amazon Prime. My mom didn't need to pay anything additional to listen to her music (older stuff) and my sister pays a token amount for 10s of millions of songs for everyone.
My sister uses Siri to send me texts messages...they come out as garbled garbage. To say a Say Siri 'needs work' is the understatement of the year.
Did someone at Apple write this article? If Amazon gets back into the phone business things could get interesting. If they sold phones at a decent price (199$) bundled with nationwide LTE (leasing bandwidth from everyone else) they could undercut just about everyone.
Currenly, the big wireless operators $&@'! you unless you have 4 phones. Done right Amazon could be a major player...
