  • Prepare for a scam gold rush with the App Store changes

    mike1 said:
I said this in an earlier post, but I hope there will be an option in settings to choose the app store as the only place from which to download.
Alternative app stores will only be available through App Store. You need to find the alternative store app, approve installation, add credit card details, and buy the apps. And those apps are still checked by Apple. You want some extra safety mechanism on top of those 4-5 steps?

To me that is enough protection. And as we have seen after 13 months in the EU - it really works.

  • President Trump talked to Apple CEO Tim Cook after China tariff reduction

What Trump is doing is resetting these relationships.  His plan should now be obvious to anyone who doesn't have--pardon me---"derangement syndrome."  That goal was to triangulate China into changing the way it does business...from tariffs, to non-tariff barriers, to theft of IP, etc.

I tried to make Image Playground create an image of a geriatric American triangulating a dragon from a Qatari B747-8. It gave up. Pretty smart AI.

  • US and China temporarily lower tariffs to start trade negotiations

It’s a great deal for the usa.
And it sets the tone for a more even snd fair deal to come.

Both sides reduced by 115%-points. China didn't give some extra discount US didn't already have. US already caved in with reduced tariffs on electronics. Inbound tariffs are still higher than before.
    1. Moving production seems to be between other countries. Apple isn't moving manufacturing to the US.
    2. Moving from China does require billions in investments that wouldn't have been needed - so taking profits from Apple.
    3. Apple was capable of running an efficient production without federal intervention. The tariffs push Apple to less efficient solutions. Either due to 14 days more shipping, other logistics, salaries, skills, flexibility,... it simply won't be as efficient as when Apple was in control.
To conclude: There are no US jobs created by Apple in manufacturing, there are short-term expenses, and products will become more expensive to manufacture. There is no upside to Apple or users on any of these tariffs.

  • Apple said to use Brazil for lower-tariff iPhones, despite denials

Brazil makes sense and it would help China look better in terms of trade balance towards the US while retaining the production of displays etc.

As for App Store... Apple shouldn't be worried at all. The experience in EU is terrible. People simply don't go to a secondary store when all the free and usable stuff is in the main store. Amazon created an alternative app store for Android and it is being discontinued this year. If even Amazon can't make it work then Apple should just allow it.

  • Apple working on adding AI-powered search to Safari

It's not really a market changing feature, weird that anyone would expect a change in valuation because of it.
The deal with Google seems to generate more profits than Mac and Watch combined.
If Apple decided to make a search engine the potential for profits from advertising could be huge.

Either way this should have an impact on the valuation of both Apple and Google/Alphabet.
