  • Get ready for a monumental iPhone 16 super cycle, says Wedbush

I'm sure the launch of AI will create a super cycle in the English speaking US market responsible for probably 1/3 of all revenue. The remaining 2/3 of customers won't benefit from this. Some might delay a decision while others could decide to skip iPhone 16 due to a lack of features available to them. With iOS 18 supporting the same devices as iOS 17 there is no rush for upgrading outside EN-US.

  • Apple Watch SE may switch to an all-plastic chassis to lower costs

If true, this report would see the entire chassis of the Apple Watch SE changed -- making the device less environmentally friendly.

The nylon material might be 100% recycled but product durability and lifetime are likely to be severely affected. Apple already did a "eco-friendly" plastic product: FineWoven. It was penny-pinching mixed with greenwashing in a product without durability.

Any review of Watch SE 3rd should remember what Apple did to 1st gen. End-of-sale in 2022, last OS upgrade in 2023. With iPhone SE it was 3 years and XR is receiving 4 years and counting of full upgrades after end-of-sale. Apple has yet to deliver that kind of value in a Watch SE. Taking the path of FineWoven is not going to help.

  • iPhone 16 Pro again rumored to get Tetraprism zoom lens

    charlesn said:
Whereas the current main lens in the 15 Pro handles the 24mm-76mm range, the main lens in the 16 Pro would have to handle the 24mm-119mm range, after which the 120mm lens would kick in.
You're right that iPhones don't have optical zoom. They have what one could describe as "optical range zoom" where multiple lenses shoot the same photo allowing an iPhone to create non-native focal length captures based on data. The 48 MP sensors seems to allow a wider distance between lenses while still delivering good photos.

  • Future Apple Vision: What to expect from Apple's next headsets

The instant naysayers of VP are ignorant of Apple history and how it became the world's most valuable company. And that's fine--your opinions are meaningless and Apple will continue on its path to creating the next great thing.
A large market cap doesn’t make Apple immune to failure. Apple, IBM, Intel, MS all had huge market caps when they launched products that flopped. Cook has been playing it safe for a decade. To me it seems Cook is doing like Sculley and launching tech to show him as a visionary.

AVP is one of these few initiatives at Apple that will not pan out. They have the money to keep it alive but it’s clear they don’t know what to do with their own invention.
You obviously would have killed Apple Watch in the crib, too, because let's talk about v1.0 of that product: other than keeping time, it could do virtually nothing on its own unless you had it tethered to an iPhone
Watch 0-series hardware was OK and iPhone dependency as well. Problem was market positioning. Apple fixed that with a focus on health.

AVP… where will Apple take it? The R&D cost must be paid. Northrop-Apple or another major vertical?  For consumers AVP is mainly for rich couch potatoes without family or friends. Most people want to be social when watching a game or movie. We want to drink a beer and have some snacks.

AVP is tech looking for a market. New hardware is only needed when we know where to use the tech or for testing more concepts.
