There’s nothing inherently wrong with Tim or any of the other current crop of presenters when it comes to “getting the word out.” But Applle doesn’t have Steve anymore and nobody could capture an audience quite like he could
Microsoft, Google, Nvidia, AMD, AWS,... they all do live to get that extra energy. None of them have Jobs.
And who watches those? Who is blown away by those?
Those being interested in their products.
The iPhone launch 2024 keynote has been streamed 26 million times on YouTube. WWDC 2024 with all the AI hit 12 million.
The Nvidia GTC launch from 9 days ago is already at 37 million.

Apple holds 10x more followers on YouTube than Nvidia. It doesn't translate into viewers. Yes - some iPhone users have Apple TV but in terms of buzz and getting YouTube views the keynotes from Apple are not selling ticket.

  • Mac Studio review roundup: Still the fastest on the block

Had the latest Studio been an M4 Ultra, I'd have changed up my M2 Ultra,  I don't see the 30% gain is worth the cost (trying to convince myself here).  I really should wait for what comes next in the Ultra range.  M5 or M6?
M5 is rumored to be packaged using SoIC-mH allowing new combinations of features and performance. It could be the first major change. M6 will obviously go 2nm but for now... M5!

  • First Mac Studio M3 Ultra benchmarks significantly outpace the M2 Ultra

My use case: I do a lot of editing in Final Cut Pro, mostly HD but some 4K, and some of the projects are 30 minutes long. Is it worth it for me to buy a Mac Studio with M3 Ultra? Twice as many horses which aren't that much weaker…

I would say a M4 Max with 64 GB is a beast of a computer. Apple mainly talks 8K in the press release for M3 Ultra and you're not doing 6K or 8K. The 14 M4 horses are faster and smarter (AI improved from M3 to M4). They also make a lot less noise than 28 M3 horses.

The return policy from Apple will give you 14 days to evaluate the Studio M4 Max 64 GB. Can't imagine that you're going to be disappointed. The video editors at work have long switched to using FCP on laptops.

  • Apple to build AI servers in Houston, invest $500B in U.S. economy

Apple uses OEM servers manufactured by Dell in Austin. Now Apple will make servers in Houston instead.
    Wouldn't call that job creation.

The real question is, are we going to lose Mozilla Firefox.
These days Firefox is the Windows Phone of browser engines. Netscape was slow and Firefox had terrible Javascript performance for years. Yes, it was standards compliant and offered better security 15 years ago, but it didn't work well with modern sites or on phones. Users went with WebKit and Chromium. Seems Firefox dropped from 30% to 4% market share while the managers increased their salaries by 400% (Wikipedia).

And... they had a CEO that tried to block Tim Cook and other LGBT+ persons in California from getting married. At one point Mozilla made Nashville look woke. I won't miss their current products or the company.
