    Google is paying Apple to be protected from competition. We all benefit from competition, and when a company with a dominant market position is paying to block other companies, we end up with a marketplace that doesn't work. It seems this is exactly why we have antitrust legislation in place. 

    I'm not even sure Google can make their search default in Chrome - just as MS couldn't make IE default in Windows.

    Apple is having very few products for Christmas and the usual end-of-year business. MBA 15 was launched in time for "back to school" so it can be done.
    Surely Watch 9 and iPhone 15 series are nice, but those are the only products that got upgraded in Q3.

    The current iPad range has stalled with sales down to levels last seen in  2014. iPad 10 and Air became way too expensive for what they deliver. We have seen MBA 13 pricing being cut. I do expect for Apple to do the same for iPad and iPad Air. Stalled sales are impacting accessories as well. Apple should drop M1 and use A17 for a more affordable Air while delivering better gaming.

    I don't see any other options for launching products that can be delivered and sold in Q4.

    You’re wrong about a lot of this. The EU announced the ruling on USB-C in 2021, and announced the timing of it at the end of 2022. Also, only phones newly introduced to the market after the deadline (Dec 28, 2024) will have to have USB-C. Apple can continue to sell pre-existing models after that. 
    Eh... the parliament voted on this in 2014 (550 votes to 12), a research report was delivered in 2019, a resolution made in 2020, and the final vote was in 2022 - Apple knew for years this was going to happen. Apple says they worked with EU for 10 years on this (see link).

    And no... Apple can't sell non USB-C models in the EU after that date. That is why AirPods Pro 2 just got USB-C as well - and the same will happen to Apple Pencil, mouse, trackpads, keyboards etc. At least Greg Joswiak is on record saying Apple will comply: https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/wsj-tech-live-2022/card/apple-says-iphones-will-comply-with-eu-law-requiring-usb-c-charging-ljK6qqmQkOkF2RdnWvrc - so... do expect a lot of upgrades.
