  • iMac M4 review: Minor changes lead to perfection for Apple's all-in-one Mac

Students will ask for MBA. Those looking beyond 23.5" or for M4 Pro performance or to get value or a height-adjustable display or use the ports or those having a display/input devices will look at Mac mini. iMac M4 is the computer we don't need.
... that 24 inch iMac 4.5K screen is better than most of the cheap 4K PC screens that most people use (all curated Apple screens generally are).

The only real downside to a Mac mini is finding a good 4K monitor in the PC world, that is actually worse than any memory or SSD configuration you can come up with when buying it.
Students need computing they can bring with them and MacBook Air is it. Look at cost, ergonomics (ports + display), display size, repair costs, or performance. The Mac mini is the better choice. You're right about better displays but 90% of those displays users connect to a Mac are not Retina. There simply is no user demand for Retina on desktop. Even those of my colleagues using Mac Pros with 192 GB RAM don't use Retina displays (motion design).

iMac is nice for elderly people doing video calls to family members. My mother-in-law is happy about her M1.

  • M4 MacBook Pro display uses quantum dot film for more vibrant color & motion performance

Strange they didn’t mention that change considering they sometimes talk about the smallest updates as the biggest change ever
I often wonder how they pick certain tiny innovations to promote as huge advances while others are kind of glossed over (if you'll pardon the pun).
Could be that panels are from different sources. Apple had to ship MBP in 2024 but couldn't secure enough quantum dot displays. As a result it isn't mentioned in marketing. Specs from Apple do at times differ for the same model.

    Don’t innovate anymore my ass.
TVs using quantum dots in the displays have been sold at Best Buy for several years now.
When was the first time we had this in a laptop?
2019 - Samsung launched the first Quantum Dot notebook 5 years ago.

  • EU's latest demand on Apple about geolocking is unforgivably naive

Really, Apple and Google should just tell the EU to piss off and buy Nokia phones running Symbian.
Google is compliant and so is Amazon. Companies can't limit sales to part of the EU Single Market.

Why do we keep getting the same kind of articles and reactions on everything EU?
Would be nice if those not getting the Single Market or EU did a bit of reading before hitting the keyboard.

  • M4 Mac mini review roundup: Pint-sized powerhouse that won't break the bank

No idea why people reviewing these products would bring up "sticker shock" as the pricing has been relatively consistent on these kinds of Apple products for decades now.
Well... that is very much the problem. In 2013 the cost of 1 TB SSD was $694. Now it is around $26. Apple is charging $200-400 for an upgrade to 1 TB. And the next TB is $200 extra.

We end up having fellow Mac users buying the base configuration and adding external storage. It goes against the design and all the Mother Nature stuff from Apple. You can't make a pretty product, have Sales destroy it, and expect a 5-star rating. Cost is pretty essential. Imagine if Tesla demanded 50% of the base cost for even the most basic option... but then Musk is more of a products guy than Cook.
