  • Dissenting iPhone 17 leak downgrades processor to A18 versus previously expected A19

Yes, it is a violation of Moore's Law in order to boost profits, it is digital shrinkflation, but it is IMHO the best way to mitigate the cost of tariffs. With A18 being fast and supporting current AI there is no need to go for A19.

  • Millions of apps were denied by Apple in 2024 amid fraud crackdown

    MisterKit said:
Not to worry. Open market app stores can't wait to host the fraudsters.
First DOGE those that could deal with fraudsters and then demand a monopoly due to the world being scary? Crony capitalism. It will help Apple until Apple has been standing still for too long.

Go to any DMV "service location" to bask in the experience of no free markets. Visit any USPS office to enjoy the short queues and customer focused products delivered (or not). Having no competition is great if you're too lazy to compete. I say we're ready for a Family Store for apps, an American Apps store, and even The Sleazy Store.

  • Apple's new study highlights App Store's role in global commerce

Putting this in the same PR spin pile as Qualcomm's modem "study."
Indeed. This just shows how much of a gatekeeper Apple is. 10% of developers pay for the 90%. What kind of sales tax is that? Apple is giving the platform for free to old companies while letting new business models pay. Is that even positive?

  • iPhone 16e review three months later: Still a great value with few compromises

It's also no secret that a major goal of the 16e is to get people using older iPhones to finally upgrade and to attract new switchers from Android--goals at which the iPhone SE had failed. ...

Apple may have found the right feature/price point formula to be persuasive (or not), and perhaps we'll hear some comments about that when Apple next reports earnings in July.
Hard to see anyone on Android switching. You have Samsung A56 and Pixel a9 both featuring 120Hz variable rate displays with more brightness. Even A55 did so. They all have flexible cameras (multiple lenses) and they are available in.... colors! Their AI features do work and in far more languages priced way below. 16e is not the switcher phone.

Bought 16e for an elderly family member. The lack of colors, lack of Magsafe convenience, the steep price for what you get as an ordinary user, and the fact that it looks like iPhone 12/13/14/15/16. The main feature is "it can work with Apple AI level 1.0". That will only be relevant if AI ships in your language with features yon need.

I would say Apple should drop 16e be $100 and next time make it tangerine or "Blue Dalmatian". It should be the fun phone just as iMac is the one with colors.

  • California Attorney General threatens lawsuit over potential 25% iPhone tariff

Tarriffs ate a trade tool. And he’s using them to get things fairer for America.
Seems Foxconn workers in Vietnam get around $3.5 per hour.
Do you want to take Americans away from their $19/hour assembly jobs so they can work for $3.5?
Or make iPhone assembly (not the device) 450% more expensive by assembling in the US? How will that help or make things fairer?
