  • Apple working on adding AI-powered search to Safari

It's not really a market changing feature, weird that anyone would expect a change in valuation because of it.
The deal with Google seems to generate more profits than Mac and Watch combined.
If Apple decided to make a search engine the potential for profits from advertising could be huge.

Either way this should have an impact on the valuation of both Apple and Google/Alphabet.

  • Apple appeals $570 million antitrust fine, says EU blew off compliance collaboration

To suggest that Apple simply ignores European "antitrust, anti-corruption, or privacy" regulations (why not toss in "human trafficking" while you're at it?) is ridiculous.
How did you go from "some companies" to quoting me for saying Apple is anti-corruption or anti-privacy? On corruption I only mentioned Airbus. On privacy... that is Tik-Tok, Google, Meta, and Spotify.

Don't go all Siri on us.

Apple made $94 billion after taxes in 2024. It seems the effective tax rate is <25% indicating a +15% impact on profits.
Apple might be able to make a search engine but it would be 100% antitrust to bundle it. Users would have to actively choose it instead of Google.

I guess the stock value should in some way reflect future earnings.

  • Apple appeals $570 million antitrust fine, says EU blew off compliance collaboration

One of the things that has always bothered me is that there isn’t any news about other companies like Nintendo, or Sony having proprietary hardware and not running afoul of the EU. Is that because they grease the wheels and Apple does not?
TikTok got fined €530 million this week for sending data to China. Sony €13.5 million in 2023 for abuse of dominant position and for disabling controllers for PS4. But the main fines have been on truck manufacturers (billions), snacks (Mondelēz - €338 million in 2024 and Coca-Cola just got raided), car glass (+ €700 million), and so on. Airbus, AWS, and Google are taking massive hits as well.

Some companies try to operate like EU doesn't have antitrust, anti-corruption, or privacy regulations at all. They fail miserably. Old tech like IBM... not a case in 15 years and they didn't even get fined for that. I would say it is a problem at C-suite level in some companies and Apple is on that list. It really is for Cook or the board to fix it.

  • App Store Freedom Act hopes to bring alternative app stores to US iPhones

Nooo.... an All-American republican right out of the family ranch in Colorado demanding "Right to install". What should we name the bill? North American Right to Apps or NRA?

Even if this is a blatant rip-off on European IP you're most welcome. Just place EU in front of anything name Liberty and you can have it without tariffs or a 30% cut ;-)
