  • AltStore brings first porn app to iPhones in the EU, Apple doesn't 'approve'

Yes, it's so great that the EU is solidly behind the exploitation and objectivization of women.
The freedom of not being able to install the apps you want? Like when Trump was removed from all platforms, used the Parler app, and Apple banned it. Is that what you want? And now the freedom of not being able to install what you want on the phone you own.

What is next? The freedom of having a car that won't let you drive to certain shops? A fridge that won't allow beer?
    My appliance = my choice.

  • Apple Vision Pro review one year later: time to exit the preview

I thought they retired the Vision Pro project? Wasn’t that news like last year or something?
Nope. Never retired, not even close.
Well... Apple stopped production as the current model was about to go Lisa. Production of some components ended May last year due to sales being far below expectations.

This is the first major product from Apple that hasn't been upgraded within 1 year. Newton, iPod, iPad, iPhone (major upgrade), iMac (3x the first year). AVP was presented in June 2023, the hardware is on M2, and the OS still doesn't do AI. This indicates that AVP was only launched due to the failure of Car. It wasn't ready or planned for being launched. All they had was this prototype and no viable roadmap.

I would say AVP is on hold. New countries are not being added and the Midas touch clearly didn't work. Apple will have to fully rethink what the technology is good for. There could be a speed bump version but something major will have to change for this to absorb the development costs when moving beyond 2026.

And it is all fine. Iterations are nice but moonshots are required for taking us and Apple beyond the current state of computing.

  • Trump's chip tariff threat takes aim at Apple's TSMC partnership

So yeah, it's a good idea to build things in America, so that Americans can benefit
It is a terrible idea. There is a limit to the number of Americans. You need to maximize the value delivered per citizen instead of having companies fighting for the same workers causing inflation. Having foreigners assemble stuff locally and taking the profits to USA is pretty smart. USA wouldn't be richer if cigars had to be handmade in Iowa. Spend your time where value is created.

Apple should build its products in the USA.
Why? Apple and Nvidia were both founded by 2nd generation immigrants. Tesla by a 1st gen. The core of Apple Silicon is from UK design (ARM) owned by a Japanese company (Softbank) with chips produced by a Taiwanese company (TSMC) using Dutch tools (ASML). You want to replace a global supply chain, keep the product quality, and believe everyone else would accept it? You don't even have the workers for doing so.

Having stocks in Apple is a great way for foreigners to siphon profits out of USA. Step 1 - fix your taxation.

  • iPhone 16 vs Samsung Galaxy S25 - Entry-level options compared

Samsung's latest effort, arriving months after Apple's most-recent iPhone launch

Or arriving months ahead of iPhone 17. Vapor chamber cooling, ProRes for all, 12 GB memory, Qualcomm X80 modem instead of the X71 in iPhone 16. Those features are all arriving ahead of iPhone 17.

    And...
it does have satellite support  "to send and receive messages via satellite (narrowband NTN)". Currently on Verizon but it is there. Not that I would ever buy one but the specifications are good.
