  • 'Severance' may have made $200 million, but Apple doesn't have to care

Ummm... hello? Google owns THE most popular streaming platform on the planet: YouTube. How's that for cultural relevance? Microsoft has always had a different business that is much more corporate focused than Apple. It has never been one of the cool kids in tech, perhaps best typified by its release of the infamous brown Zune.
Having YouTube only makes Google more relevant to advertisers. It doesn't make you go buy Android devices. Same for Apple and TV+. There is no need for Apple to have TV+. It doesn't require Apple hardware or have significant unique features when used with Apple hardware. Apple could have done games like MS and Sony to connect hardware and services. As for Zune... Apple did the Zune of SoMe with iTunes Ping. At least it didn't come with a $20B bill.

Apple MUST be in the streaming space that keeps it at the crossroads of movies, television shows, live sports and concerts because those are essential elements of American culture and they help to keep the Apple name culturally relevant and in the cultural zeitgeist. Does Apple TV+ need more subscribers than it currently has? Sure. But it has done the harder part of making that happen already by creating so many great shows.
Would you say Google and Microsoft are only relevant if they enter streaming? Apple would IMHO be better of by shopping gaming studios instead of running a 3rd tier streaming service focused on art cinema.

Apple spent $10b on Car. The numbers indicate that TV+ is performing even worse.
$20B already spent and no profit. TV+ has been live for 6 years to gain 0.3% of the audience.
It isn't even exclusive to Apple hardware with support for Android phones and TV.

I could see it serve AVP but now... I would suggest for Apple to sell it and make a deal with a streaming service instead.

  • Trump claims Tim Cook has committed Apple to massive US investment

    Good on Tim

he basically funded China. Would be great to see that kind of investment and more back home.
We have seen how countries force Apple to invest locally. China, India, Indonesia, Brazil,... and unless those investments keep rolling the Chinese could make a soft ban by making iPhone socially unacceptable like what is happening to Tesla - just faster.

If it made sense for Apple to invest in USA it would have happened.

  • iPad Air update rumored to get M3 upgrade, not M4

I thought Apple wasn’t going to use any M3 chips anymore and the M3 wasn’t even going to be made. The M3 was a stopgap that was EOL’d practically after it was released.
M3 production is indeed seen as expensive. The only reason for M3 would be to protect iPad Pro. Apple could move Air to A18 instead. This would make Pro the only iPad with an M-series chip, reduce the cost of Air (or the Bill of Materials), and let it use N3E.
