  • Apple reaffirms privacy as a tentpole feature in Siri after lawsuit settlement

A well-written article overall. Kudos to the author.

I have just one suggestion, which isn't unique to this specific article:
Make it more clear that the writer has no evidence that either Google or Amazon sell otherwise private user data, which is not unlike Apple. They may use collected data internally in ways that Apple doesn't, or at least does in a far more limited fashion. But none of the three ever sell your data to any outside parties, whether it be an advertiser or data broker or government agency.  What is entrusted to them stays with them.

Sometimes readers are left with the impression that's not the case, which may not be the writer's intent.
There are so many subtleties to data harvesting that the average person doesn't understand. I'd propose having every company which collects data answer the following questions in their privacy statements (honestly, simply, and clearly):

    1. What data is being collected and what methods are being used to obtain it? The second one being very important since data harvesting has a long history of companies seeing what they can get away with. I feel like having everything "out in the open" would be eye opening (and stomach turning) for many people.
    2. What is the data being used for (specifics, not vague terms)?
    3. Where is the data being stored and what protections are in place to avoid any personal information (PII) being leaked?
Then have an independent 3rd party validate that these statements are true, and have penalties in place for false statements.

It's crazy how much misinformation is out there, so having this type of information easily available from the source and verified would help dispel misinformation and social media smear campaigns being run by competitors.

What makes you think Apple wasn't friendly with Nvidia?

  • US may ban the most popular home router over Chinese security fears

It’s crazy how entrenched adversaries are in the USA tech ecosystem.

The government should get Apple to make Airport routers again in the US and set up a big contract.
What's crazy is that there's a ton of money invested into data harvesting and social media campaigns to manipulate public opinion, yet no one seems to be able to invest money into getting someone to vet the firmware code on routers to confirm these accusations. Given how easy it is for companies to reverse engineer everything being manufactured today for the purpose of cloning it, it should be trivial to reverse engineer routers (and other devices) in order to determine if they really are spying on us. Unless of course perpetuating this "war" is serving an agenda.

So many people whose brain is solely in their eyeballs. Their shallow take on the world creating so much insecurity that they need to weave a social judgement story around it in an attempt to find safety in numbers.
