  • Apple Watch Series 4: Should you upgrade?

I have a Series 0, so pretty much a no brainer if I base it on features/specs. However, my Apple Watch still meets all my needs and looks great. Tough decision. In reality, if I do upgrade, it will be for the looks. The polished stainless steel, the display, the watchfaces not available on the older watch.
The most compelling reason to upgrade is the one that Tim Cook is too embarrassed to mention: If you upgrade you will have two watches! You can wear one at night while the other is charging, and vice versa - an elegant solution to the number one complaint.
The number one complaint of people who don't own the watch.  I put the watch on the charger when I get in the shower in the morning.  By the time I put it back on, I'm at 100% and good until I put it back on the charger the following morning.  I was camping last weekend and didn't need to charge it until the second night.  And even then I was at 38%.

  • What it was like to give up my Apple Watch after three years of constant use

Interesting read about addiction. I still have my series 0 and use it now and again but then again a couple of weeks back I also started to leave my phone and other devices at home.

Its suprisingly weird the first couple of times to be device free which in my mind is indicative of a problem. So now I try to go out device free as much as possible. Its very liberating and I find my attention improving. Outside of work I can do without devices although I think i would always carry if visiting another country.

Interesting.  My watch has weened me off my phone.  The only thing I see in terms of notifications is text messages from my household.  Leaving the house for errands and knowing my family can reach me but not having the urge to check every crazy way people could contact me (email, social media, et cetera) is pretty freeing.  I also believe in practicing digital blackout days.

  • Cheaper MacBook Air, Face ID iPads, new Apple Watch coming later in 2018, report claims

It's never "read" great, to me, but in use it's quickly learned and it natural. Everyone I know with an iPhone X loves it.
Of course I haven't tried it but Apple Pay sounds really clumsy. I've long disliked the right side button location because often when adjusting the volume with the buttons opposing one another, I end up turning off the display instead. Now with double clicking the right side button to activate Apple pay it just sounds even worse and quite a bit more tedious because you have to double click to bring up your wallet and then Face ID. Also I've found that Apple Pay usually works best if you place the top of the iPhone directly under the payment logo which positions the phone in a downward angle. Does Face ID work at that angle? With a Home button and Touch ID it is a single step and so easy. You don't even need to unlock your phone or bring up your wallet. It just works. The new way seems unnecessarily complicated as does virtually every other feature I use the Home Button for.
I love Apple Pay. I used to use it on my iPhone all the time. Now I use it on my watch. It's the same double-tap. I don't even think twice about it.

  • Apple's Mac mini now inexcusably getting trounced by cheap Intel hardware

Oh boy...here we go! Continuous bitching about the Mac mini. I doubt most here are gonna buy one anyways.
I'm getting ready to add 3 more computers at my business.  Mac Minis fit our needs but the current models are so long in the tooth that it's hard to justify.  I don't want to pony up the extra money for a iMac and I'm not switching to Windows.  We won't be able to wait much longer.

  • MagSafe replacement comes to Apple's 15" MacBook Pro with Vinpok Bolt-S USB-C adapter

This MagSafe replacement does not handle data. If it could do both power and data then that's a great product.
I don't really want a data cable to be able to break away.  This can result in corruption of data during transfers and un-ejected hard drives.  I'm going to go with a power only cable makes sense.  I would use this at home where my kids have unplugged my laptop numerous times.  It's not necessary for me in the office where I have one cable driving my monitor, power, hard drives and multiple other peripherals.
