  • Preorders start for iPhone 14 & iPhone 14 Plus in yellow

My current edc case is a Apple silicone Sunglow one  I’d worried the silicone would show soiling in such a light color but I’ve used it daily for months and it’s untouched. So I’d expect similar for the yellow variant. For those who’d like to brighten their iPhone without buying these new ones.
I bought the yellow watch band when it came out last year and wish that a yellow braided loop came out this year as I prefer those over the silicone bands. Got a yellow case this year for my 14 Pro Max.

Yellow is a gorgeous spring colour but I have a 14 Pro Max already so I’m getting the yellow case.

  • Wired CarPlay vs. wireless - the pros and cons

We all know that to extend the life of the battery it's better to have fewer charging cycles.

But I spend a lot of time in my car, and of course I connect my phone via a wired connection for CarPlay.

Except then the phone begins to charge.

It doesn't need a charge, my phone will last all day without a charge, just DO NOT CHARGE.

I'm surprised that this was not mentioned in the article.

In fact the article says the opposite - that wired is great because it charges.  I get it that maybe on a long long trip when you are doing a lot of calls that you might want it to charge, but for me doing a couple of school runs a day, it's just shortening the life of the battery.

Note: if the "Clean Energy Charging" feature allowed the user to select the charge times, then this problem would be fixed.  ie: only charge if it's between 10pm and 6am, then I could plug in to CarPlay and the phone wouldn't charge.
You have it backwards. Yes fewer charging cycles means better battery health. But charging or topping up prevents the battery from going down very low which stresses the battery. If you charge 50% all at once or 5 x 10% it’s the same thing. So charging many times is actually fine for the battery as it cannot overcharge due to optimized charging.

  • Wired CarPlay vs. wireless - the pros and cons

I’ve been using wired CarPlay for years (Toyota) and love it. The phone sits in the front centre console and as I am usually the only one in the car I don’t have the issue of others using my phone. Lol they have their own phones if they’re in the car. I use Siri to make and answer calls so don’t need to hold the phone. At the very beginning the major issue was when I unplugged it (eg to use Apple Pay at a drive through window) it would take several tries to get it to connect back up. Sometimes I even had to turn the car off and on. But for the last few years I’ve never had that issue so good on either Apple or Toyota. Icing on the cake is that my phone is always charged up, saving the battery health.

  • iPhone 15 to require certified accessories for full access to USB-C

I would support that and buy MFi USB-C. I had crap knockoff lightning cables that actually drained the battery and caused apps to randomly open and close on their own. Knockoffs are never worth it.
