  • Unopened original iPhone auction smashes record with $190,000 price [u]

Where do you get $158,644 from?

Clicking through on your link states that it sold for $190,372.80

    I'm confused....!
The top bid in the Bid History page:
    $158,6447/16/2023 5:09:04 PMPrivateID Private

The $190,372.80 on the main page likely includes auction fees and commissions.
    This is correct.

  • Apple urges UK to rethink anti-encryption Online Safety Bill

I'm a bit confused as to why Apple would be so against this when they already have a ready-to-go service (that they voluntarily developed themselves) that would scan for such images while keeping end-to-end encryption intact.
I think the tsunami of criticism and complaints that Apple had after mentioning it the first time may have something to do with it...

It's bad enough when you see completely unnecessary statements like this in the financial press, but it's even worse on an Apple-focused site like this. smh

  • How to visit Singapore using Apple Pay, Apple Wallet, and zero cash

How is this a story? As a UK resident it makes me laugh. I’ve used ApplePay for years and since lockdown it’s the only way I pay for everything (including in Europe). Odd that the US is so backwards on this…
As a fellow Brit, I also find it amazing how many U.S. companies cling to older payment systems instead of embracing new ones. Or, in cases such as Walmart, they try to move forward with new payment technologies but do it in such a way as to minimize their payment processing cost or to exert more control over the entire process.

If only companies thought about the stuff they're putting customers through sometimes...

    73º?
That is shockingly low. Do you always wear long pants and shirts? Our central air system is set between 79º-81º depending on humidity and we are always comfortable. I have checked room temps against the thermostat setting and they match up. I see people posting low thermostat numbers like this all the time I can only assume they are inaccurate.
    [Converts 73F into C]
I'm lucky enough to have an aircon unit in the UK, a country where they are often used in places of business, but not that much at home.
Our recent heatwave pushed temperatures above 30C, and while the aircon could go down to 16C, it struggled to go below 24C, and that was unbearable.
At least where I live, 73F isn't considered shockingly low. Not by a long stretch.
