    Assuming that's correct: what happens when an image is edited in an outside app, like Photoshop? Does Photos retain the ability to revert back to the original in the future, or is the original simply replaced with the Photoshopped version?
    I've just checked it with Pixelmator. 

    Loaded up an image, selected to edit in Pixelmator, made changes, saved, and the altered image was visible in Photos. 
    I then went to the Edit section within Photos, and the "Revert to Original" button in the top left was available. Clicking it reverted back successfully.
