Head EU antitrust regulator wants Apple to allow alternate app stores
As I wrote under another headline, I will start trusting European commission when they do something about Spotify, which is clearly a monopoly that uses its market power to pay artists less than half of what its competitors pay. Instead, the EU is siding with the giant in the music streaming business to handicap the other company that gives users a choice. Would they feel the same if Apple was a European company and Spotify was American? -
EU says smarthome 'gatekeepers' like Apple may harm competition

The EU is a bigger market, with more consumers, better quality of life, longer life expectancy, less inequality, less child poverty, less gun violence, better education and more manufacturing.
The EU itself is the most consumer friendly regulator in the world, be it data protection, food quality or consumer rights. It is also the biggest financer of science and research in the world, which explains why Google, Apple and others have big research operations for AI, chip design and algorithms in Europe.
Fun fact: if you take the top 2% of incomes and wealth out of the equation, the US is on the same level of income for the bottom 98% as the EU.
The US have more billionaires, while Europeans are happier, healthier and better educated.
You should either compare US vs. EU as a whole, or California, New York, Texas and Massachusetts vs. Germany, France, Italy, Spain. Do not conveniently forget about Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Poland, Greece, etc..

The question I still have (I've raised it before) is what the hell are all these Apple employees doing? It's not like there's big lines of new products. Apple has been relatively slow to release new products the last few years and they have seemingly abandoned accessory lines like monitors and WiFi routers. They've been slow to release updates of the Mini and Mac Pro. They haven't been doing much with apps. Most of the products they have released have been incremental variations on what's come before.
All TVs are iterative products. Are TV manufacturer employees doing no work when they produce a new one? Are they instead conjured from a magical well?
This is a company that makes the best computer and mobile devices hardware consistently for decades. It is also the one that makes the best, most secure, most reliable, and most frequently updated software to run on its devices. Apple has it's own publishing platforms, designs the best mobile chips in the world, has the most successful and profitable retail chain, highest rated consumer support in any industry. They even design the third party components they buy from others like LG, Samsung and Sony. It is also not a secret that they spend time, money and energy on secret projects that they don't like to talk about until they are ready for customers. They don't distract you and make you believe they are building the future by buying (and eventually selling) flashy companies, announcing vaporware concepts, or releasing half-baked beta products no one cares about.
Apple is still a very compact company for what it does. Compare its employee numbers, products and services to Microsoft, Google or Samsung'sand you will be amazed to see what an efficient company it is.
