What you are calling "Build Number" (very confusing), Apple calls Firmware version.

Firmware updates are delivered automatically while your AirPods are charging and in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac that's connected to Wi-Fi. The iOS device or Mac must be "Connected" to WiFi not the headphones.

The ONLY reason, I use a case is so the darn phone doesn't slip out of my hands.

 Apple leather cases are the thinest and "for me" last the longest (1 year) lasting that survive well enough, until I buy a new phone.

Why in the world would I purchase an adapter for $29 over just buying a new USB C to USB C cable.

My last remaining cables holding up my complete transition to USB C are my lighting cables.

Once transitioned to USB C, I'll just throw them out. Not sure how this helped eliminate waste EU, it just accelerated it. /s
