  • How to create a bootable macOS Catalina installer on a USB drive

    hobs0n said:
I need help! Ive downloaded both "macOS High Sierra [Geekrar].dmg" and "macOS High Sierra 10.13 by Geekrar.vmdk" and Im trying to create a clean USB bootable install so I can wipe y Macbook Pro and do a fresh High Sierra install. Ive tried both Disk Creator, Diskmaker x 7 (for High sierra) and Diskmaker x  9 (for Catalina) but I cant find a correct effing osx installer! Disk Creator says "It is lacking the file "Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg"  . What to do ??? Why cant OsX by as easy to use as Linux?!... sigh

Can't you download the installer directly from Apple? You can find the MacOS High Sierra from the App Store.

Couldn't you boot into Recovery mode and wipe the drive via Disk Utility and then reinstall MacOS this way?

Once you download the installer from the App Store, you can use DiskMaker to create the USB installer if you want to do it this way.

    Hope this helps.

I wonder why it's so late this year? Last year was June 3-7.

Probably to build and test the infrastructure it's going to take to host the possibility of 20 million plus people on their servers. Things like this require a shit ton of bandwidth.

Good point, I hope their servers will be able to handle that much bandwidth. I'm sure they'll use a CDN to help with the load.

US only. Not actually very useful for tracking Covid-19 for the majority of the world!

You can take a look at this site https://ncov2019.live/data for live data for the rest of the world and the United States as well.

Making them more repairable would be nice as well. To be able to upgrade the device with more RAM or a bigger drive after purchase would be welcome

I bought Apple stock after seeing that presentation. Still have it and it hasn't done too shabby.

I brought my APPL stock December of 2006 based on rumors that Apple would release iPhone in January 2007 at Macworld. It HAS done amazingly well. I picked up a few more over the years. I still have all of mine even the shares I got in December of 2006.
