  • Apple took us to school with iPad at special event demonstration

Groundbreaking vs. the standard, IMO, because it sounds a whole lot more educational and engaging than what my kids use their school’s chromebooks for — checking grades, writing a few docs to submit, and reading docs from the teacher or other students — that’s it :/

I’ll take two, please - one each in White and Space Gray

  • Dish's Sling TV tops internet TV providers with 2.21M subscribers

Locals availability is mostly dependent on the market, not the OTT provider (Sling, ATT DT Now, Vue...)

In my opinion, it’s the one advantage that the cable companies still has vs OTT, assuming you can’t do a blended OTT service with an HD Homerun/antenna for locals (my current configuration).

All of that said – my local cable company has figured out that they finally better change their ways. They now offer a $22 a month package with all locals and I get to pick any 10 standard cable channels that I want. Progress ?

  • Apple's $4,999 all-in-one iMac Pro launches Thursday, Dec. 14

From Apple.com it appears that the keyboard is sans Touch Bar.

I like using TB, even though there’s plenty of room for improvement. IMO this is/was an optimal time to introduce Touch Bar to the desktop market, and not doing so means that Touch Bar is not the “better than touchscreens” solution as Apple first pitched.

  • UK government to initiate tax crackdown on tech firms holding earnings offshore

    larrya said:
Good for them. Taxes not paid by corporations are taxes paid by the rest of us, yet they benefit disproportionately from roads, airports, labor force, government research, and the rest of the national infrastructure.
Taxes paid by corporations are, in aggregate, paid by the populous, because the burden of taxes is typically passed along in the form of higher prices for the goods and services provided.  For example, import duties and sales taxes are factors in the cost of an iPhone in countries like the U.K., where it’s not uncommon to hear its citizens, right here on AI, complain about the relative cost of an iPhone there versus in the states.  The price is not merely the U.S. dollar price converted to pounds, after all.
The population doesn't pay! Just consumers of Apple products and they don't really pay because taxes are on profits they are not costs. So while the comment "sounds good" to is actually 100% rubbish!
Yes (consumers pay) and No (rubbish)... if an iDevice sold at $100 made Apple $10 in profit and with new taxes makes them just $5 in profit, then Apple simply raises the price to $110
