It is simply a flaw in the application. There is no time to alert the user. As soon as the page starts loading the crash is instantaneous.

But a flaw in an application really shouldn't be able to bring the OS down. That is what the sandboxing is all about.

Agreed, this may not be a particularly good measurement of creativity, but it is good to see most of the expected companies in the top 20. As for which patents are valuable or not, this is snyone's guess. I'll bet on Ericsson, Huawei and Qualcomm, in that order, for the IoT infrastructure. Samsung Electronics and TSMC for manufacturing. SW patents are a lot harder to defend.

You nailed it with "under-utilized", and that is also the reason it is doomed to be removed. 
For developers the problem is that not all devices have 3D touch, so there must always be an alternative way of accessing a feature. And there is no way to provide a hint to users that 3D touch does something, they must try or guess. This makes for a very confusing UX, far from Apple's guidelines and good practice.
