  • Man convicted & sentenced for million-dollar fake iPhone return scheme

Apple was defrauded out of $1M, but the time, effort, many varying costs of the scam, and all the people involved that would need to get paid means that this was not a very profitable "business" for going on for nearly 4 years.

PS: If he's going to do be this unethical I would question if he cheated on his work to get his masters degree.
Many of these Chinese get their degree by shady methods. 1. Hire someone to do the research/school work for them. 2. translate a Chinese language paper into English. Even if the paper was published before, but since it is in Chinese or other languages. The professor has no way to know if it is a direct copy.

My ex study electrical engineering master degree in canada. One of her fellow student is from China. She can barely able to communicate with the professor with English. It makes you wonder how can she get accepted by the program in the first place.
Some of the comments here surprise and saddens me. My personal experience with Chinese (and South Korean) students and interns at our company is that they work _incredibly_ hard.  Bright and ambitious individuals, all of them.
Could we please leave stereotypes (bordering on racism) out of the discussion?

  • Developer hack puts CarPlay on Tesla using a Raspberry Pi

Using Android to get CarPlay on a Tesla. Oh, the irony.

  • Apple Car schematics allegedly shown to Japanese supplier in 2020

Seems highly unlikely that someone would make an unsolicited/ unannounced visit from Apple to discuss something like the Apple Car. Any in-person meeting would have probably been preceded by lots of calls and emails.
Lots of calls and emails - and exchange of NDAs, which must to be run via the legal department. Business like this is not discussed at a casual visit.

Why even bother to publish something like this?

Oh ffs, [rolls eyes] Typical negative troll's context.
In what way? Was I wrong in any way? Please let me know in that case.
I just tried to pint out that it is currently impossible to have a proper cross-platform group chat, without using third-party apps.

I'd say the opposite is possibly true in the EU. For years Messages has been a rarely used option as far as I can tell while WhatsApp has been a must use for almost every person I know.

My wife has never ever used Messages for IM. I only know one person that still uses sms for regular messages and that's on Android.

I use WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber and Signal.

Every now and then I see waves of people appearing as new users on Telegram but I'd say WhatsApp is still the IM client that reigns supreme here.
They are missing sooo much by using 3rd party Apps. One of the best features is that when sending to someone new, it will revert to a text automatically if the user is not on the iMessages network
Well, that part doesn't work at all when having a group conversation. As long as Apple fails to recognize new messaging standards, the only reliable way to group chat is using e.g. WhatsApp. Like it or not.
