  • Apple 'an amazing company' says Microsoft's Bill Gates

Despite the back & forth battle between Jobs & Gates it was just business as usual for competing companies. You can have a good friendly relationship with someone, but when it comes to business with that same friend it can becomes war, but they can still have respect for or from their competitors because both are pursuing the same dream, but in a different way. This is also important as well because it makes the competing companies strive to be better then the other which in turn benefits us the customer. Jobs & Gates were a genius in their own rights. Each had ideals & pursued them passionately. It just saddened me that we will never know what Steve Jobs would have pictured for us for the future. Not saying that Apple is not doing a good job now, just would have been great not to lose such a legend & have gotten the chance to know what his idealistic view of the future of Apple was for him. It is nice to have a article that shines praise on Apple every now & then. Apple is held to such high standards that it gets ridiculous & tiring of all the stupid negativity that the news spits out. Apple is not perfect, but what company is. At least Apple try’s it's best to provide quality product for it’s customer that works intuitively. Yes I am a Apple fan, but I am also not blind to their shortcomings. Hope for another glorious 20 years or more for Apple. INC. At least Steve Jobs made some of his dreams come true despite all the hardships & challenges. “He made his mark in the Universe.”

  • Editorial: Will Apple's 1990's "Golden Age" collapse repeat itself?

Actually Mac OS Classic had a very good memory management within the limits of its capabilities. It was just not a true operating system.
    Is that like the
"No True Scotsman" fallacy? It was software that initialized the hardware, handled input from the keyboard, output to a display, read and wrote to storage media, and ran software on top of that software. In every definition, it was a true operating system. It was modern for the time, even if we've since moved past it.
If you want to go pedantic, all the forum is yours. Of course everyone here knows what CP/M is. We're talking about something booting from a 400K diskette, just a System file and a Finder file along with the ImageWriter driver and a few other files. Yes that was an achievement but an achievement that shaped all the future evolution. When OS/2, Windows NT and others opened the path to modern PC operating systems it would have no chance of survival. Even Amiga's Tramiel OS was ahead of Mac OS with its true multitasking.
Apparently I am the less then 1% because I don’t know what CP/M is. LOL!!!

  • Apple 2017 year in review: All of the products Apple announced that won't ship until 2018

I think it world be great if Apple would for the Mac Pro just reuses the Aluminum tower case that it used to have. It was easy to upgrade and the tower can provide everything you need. I know this was not talked about, but it would be nice if Apple would actually make a real MacBook Pro with a modular design with actual real Pro power under the hood instead of worrying about thinness an throttling to keep heat down. I know I am probably less then 1% that wants this type of MacBook Pro, but I can dream right?

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8 users reportedly unable to recharge completely flat battery

Don’t quote me on this but does Apple iPhone and iPad automatically shut down at around 3 to 5% of remaining battery storage so that batteries are never completely dead? What if Android OS has a software update that does the same thing and shuts off the phone when it reaches down to a certain % so that there enough for the battery to recharge. Plus give a warning of a low battery. It is just a thought.

  • Second class action suit surrounding Apple's throttling of iPhones with depleted batteries...

I think Apple just has to be transparent about the battery lifespan and tell users that on one hand they can expect updates for up to 5 years and on the other hand to expect the device to slow down as the battery gets older and the OS acts to maximize battery life. Being up front about it would have helped. Now Apple has to do damage control and the haters out there will just say that Apple wants people to buy a new phone. Offering battery replacement more obviously would help.
Battery replacement has been available for some time for $79.

    Agree about more transparency, though.
Apple should do what they did with the Mac OS on the MacBook Pro where it monitors the battery cycle and apply that to the iOS. Have a software that is integrated into the iOS where it can monitor the health, cycle of charge and discharge of the battery. I think a class action law suit is a bit extreme, but Apple could have made more aware of the matter before people found out on their own, where as then Apple had to confessed to the situation when it was to late and made them look bad even though that may have not been their attention. Technology is expensive for anyone so I personally feel that whatever the hardware is that it should have software that can tell us the health of the device and give as warnings when something is wrong.
