  • Hands on with the new iOS 15 CarPlay features

    jdw said:
Fine and well, but how does one update CarPlay in the car?
CarPlay runs entirely on your iPhone. Basically, it just displays to your car’s infotainment system as a secondary display. So when your iPhone updates to iOS 15 this fall, CarPlay in your car will automatically be updated as well.

  • Spatial Audio lands on Apple Music after WWDC launch

How does one know if a track has spatial audio?

I can’t see any indication in Music.   Is there a particular song anyone knows that works?

there are a ton of articles announcing this but nothing describing how to try it out beyond a mention that some big name artists have unspecified tracks that I guess you’re supposed to go listening for.
There will be a specific icon designating Spatial Audio-enabled songs. Right now, not many have it and Apple will be highlighting playlists of compatible songs soon.

  • 2021 12.9-inch iPad Pro review: Pro hardware without Apple's pro software

The software issue isn’t apps. Although apps could do more than they do with that SOC.
the software issue is the IpadOS itself.

file management is its biggest problem. End of story.
Multi user ability. It’s a pro machine.
Multi windowing, multitasking all need fundamental work

The list is bigger, but those are the biggies preventing iPad being a laptop replacement, instead of a laptop alternative.
These... are parts of its software.... almost everyone can agree on these. iPadOS needs updated with multi user support, a refreshed Files app, and some improvements to multitasking. Again, the hardware is rock solid. It is what runs on the hardware that needs addressing.

Good review, but why not include running pro-type apps from other developers? Just running geekbench and complaining about no Apple Pro apps is shortchanging the review. But still a good review!
I'd sure hope that after almost four thousand words I had a bit more in there than just running a geekbench test and complaining about Apple's apps.

I mentioned LumaFusion alone 3-4 times including two photos of the app in action. LumaFusion is great but it still isn't as full-featured as Final Cut Pro is. There's also no full-featured Logic equivalent and especially no Xcode option. There is iMovie, GarageBand, and Playgrounds but those aren't the same thing. I also put more weight on Apple for a reason. It cant sit here and say it is this high-end professional workhorse if it wont bring its own apps to the platform but expects others. How it can expect the full version of Adobe Premiere or AfterEffects to come to iPad without Motion, Compressor, and FCP?

There are plenty of great apps for sure such as the Affinity Suite which has near-feature parity with its own desktop apps. but photo apps are one of the most saturated areas of the App Store so it is expected to have quite a few of those.

  • Smartmi P1 becomes newest air purifier with HomeKit support [U: Now available]

The SMARTMI30 coupon is not accepted at Amazon, and by the way they upped the price to $219 versus the $199 as you mentioned in your post Andrew.
It's actually *not* available yet on Amazon. You're looking at their original air purifier while the P1 seems to not have launched yet. We were told they had an issue with their Amazon listing going live but once it does we will be updating the article.
