  • Here are all the devices getting Matter support

Since MATTER 1.0 doesn't support cameras, any cameras, I'm wondering how the Aqara G2H camera supports Matter and HomeKit Secure Video (HSV). My guess/speculation is that the device only works with an Internet connection and an app running on your iPhone which also requires an Internet connection and communicates with its home base in Shenzhen, which would bypass/compromise the security architecture of Apple's HSV. Can you investigate that?
These act as hubs. So they are Zigbee hubs for various Aqara accessories. Even though the camera won't surface in Matter, all the connected accessories like contact sensors, motion sensors, etc will.

  • Hands on with Apple's new HomeKit architecture in iOS 16.2

What if someone in the house has an older Mac on the network that can't update to the latest version of MacOS? Will that block the whole house or that user from having any access to control HomeKit from any of their devices? That seems like an unacceptably un-Apple sort of complication. I can see the home app on that one older device no longer working, but blocking everything else for everyone (or for that user) doesn't make a lot of sense. It's going to be a problem if someone who needs to keep an older device for a certain use use loses access to Home controls on all devices, or even if someone who does't need to keep an older device nonetheless loses all HomeKit access until they shell out hundreds or thousands of dollars to upgrade every piece of hardware.

The devices that are capable ought to migrate, and only those that aren't should cease to have that functionality.
In this situation, you have a choice. you can upgrade the home to the new architecture and all devices will work except that older Mac. Or you stay with the old architecture to ensure that Mac still works.

  • Apple Watch Ultra review: Ambitious aspirations

Thank you for an honest review, and being willing to point out what could be perceived as shortcomings. I agree with your assessment that it feels like a first generation product. Now let’s just wait for all the apple apologist to gang on about how wonderful this product is and not that they got suckered for paying $800 for a bigger watch but they really have no use buying over a series 8. Now we can just wait for apples, marketing team, to conjure up a story about how the non free diving app and fall detection managed to save someone’s grandma from having a heart attack at 200 feet underwater after she fell, and hit her head on a rock
    Thank you!

Don’t get me wrong though, I do like this watch quite a bit, even as a “first-gen” product. Look at the Apple Watch Series 7. you could get the 45mm titanium Apple Watch Series 7 for $849. The Apple Watch Ultra is $799 and is much more than just a different case material.

  • Nomad leather cover for Siri Remote review: Fixing Apple's missteps

How are you so unorganized that you lose a remote?
I mean everyone is different. But it’s a very common problem. Personally, my wife is (admittedly) very forgetful and we have an “open concept” house. So our living room, kitchen, and dining room are all one big room-ish. So we walk between them all and usually bring the remote as we are doing dishes, cleaning, etc. When this happens it just gets misplaced and we have to search around. AirTag is faster

  • Everything new coming to Apple TV in tvOS 16

Assuming they care, they could have had a short 15 minute run down of everything at least.

And Apple TV 4K 2nd gen was outdated the day it came out. Hope they announce something with a modern chip September.
My thought is Apple kept tvOS under the radar ahead of a bigger refresh with new hardware. But who knows.
