  • Review: Alto brings Italian leather to Apple Watch bands

I wonder what's so special about Italian cows that makes their leather so marketable.
    I can help there!

So! Italian leather is mainly preferred because of its history. There is a long history of leather products coming from Italy and are often used in the fashion industry. Vegetable tanning was invented in Tuscany before spreading around the world. In these tanneries, they will place the raw hides in wood drums for up to three months with vegetable tannins. This helps built insoluble protein complexes to help increase durability. It even gives Italian leather a distinct smell.

This watch band is made from full grain leather, which is one of the best available. It is the most resistant and strongest, made from the top layer of the hide without being sanded or buffed. This keeps makes all bands unique with individual imperfections and nuances. When these imperfections show through, only the best leather can be used or it would look terrible.

TL/DR: Italian tanneries have been around a long time and have a history of some of the best leather in the world.

  • One year with the Apple Watch Series 3

I do imagine the future apple series watch will have an led bright light for flashlight mode.
I use the existing built-in flashlight all the time! Seriously, all the time. Take the dogs for a walk at night and they go, I've got to pick it up! Can't see, but thanks to my watch I can! Adding the flashlight to Control Center was such a great feature.

Plus, they did it so intelligently. They didn't just turn the light on all the way, they use the accelerometer to only turn it on when you tilt it away from yourself. A small thing, perfectly executed.

  • Review: HomeKit compatible First Alert Onelink Safe & Sound smoke detector more than it ap...

Most importantly, how well does it work as a smoke detector? Does every little wisp of smoke or smell set it off? Some First Alerts have 2 stages so for example, if its someone burned toast it doesn't set it off, but if it senses legitimate smoke it goes off as it should. I'd much rather have this than some gimmick speaker in it. First and foremost, it should function very well as a smoke/CO2 detector.
Two things. In my testing, it did a decent job of not going off in the kitchen. The cheapo Kiddie smoke detectors I had before went off at the slightest smoke. In this case, they seemed to not be triggered so easily. That is really useful.

I also wanted to say that the speaker is FAR from gimmicky. This is a legitimate enhancement. It isn't like taking a good product and just sticking something that doesn't really belong there. Honestly I want more of these in my house. The ceiling is the perfect spot to be putting a speaker, and it was so easy to install compared to other in-wall speakers.

  • 65+ new features in watchOS 5 for Apple Watch

    • Oval-shaped buttons
    ...

    • Flights climbed
    Yes! Oval shaped buttons!!

I can already see flights climbed on my Watch and iPhone? How is this different? Is there a change?

Lots of good stuff here, though. I’m looking forward to the update.
Same flights climbed metric, just presented in the activity app on the Apple Watch. It didn't show up there by default previously.
