  • MagSafe Duo review: almost everything you need, but has too many compromises

Can a MagSafe iPhone be simply and quickly removed without flipping the charger around? In other words, is the charger heavy enough that the user doesn’t need to take care when removing their phone or does the charger need to be affixed to the nightstand?
Watch the video to see my do it one-handed. It is solid feeling, but not heavy enough to hold itself down. When I pick up my phone, my fingers just wap around the back edge a hair which breaks the magnetic attraction and easily allows me to lift it free. It isn't perfect, but it isn't hard to remove it one-handed. The normal MagSafe charger is much more difficult as it doesn't have the edges around it like this does.

Restaurants are a friction spot for Apple Pay as waiters often still have to take your card to another location to check out. Apple Pay obviously won't work in that scenario and opens up customers to have their card skimmed or number stolen.

Maybe I missed something, but how does this overcome this problem? Still need to give a server your actual card, right?
So you give the server your OV Valet fob instead of your card. It doesn’t store your number so they can’t copy your number and if they have a card skimmer, it will only get a single-use token. Obviously if they stole it it would be an issue of if they charged it twice, but you’d know exactly where that was.

  • Review: VOCOlinc VS1 is a highly-affordable HomeKit contact sensor

    Chinese manufacturer? No thanks.
Except it’s HomeKit and Bluetooth. You don’t need the manufacturer at all and there is no way for it to share any data and everything it does is encrypted end stored locally in your home. If this was an Alexa device, possibly be worried. But when used with HomeKit, you’re safe.

Force touch is going away on the watch?? Bleh. I find it really useful and much quicker than hunting through menus especially on a small screen. The current implementation is a bit crap though. You have to go around force touching everything to find out what is force touchable, and then try and remember. A simple indication of some sort, maybe a subtle screen edge glow or something similar would have been a good indicator so you knew immediately that you could force touch.

On a different note, I am not sure about the legality of them essentially abandoning hardware in existing watches. They're actually removing functionality that has existed since the watch was purchased. That seems a bit unreasonable to me.
My issue with it is similar. It isn't that it is hard to know when it is available, it is that it is so inconsistent. Apple basically started to abandon it a year ago as it removed Force Touch menus from several apps, burying them in menus. Now it is completely gone. Things like changing the app layout seem so annoying and slow. I get the urge to make the watch thinner, but this is such a great way to interact with the watch and the small display. If it was used more, not less, it would have an entirely different story.

  • Apple TV hardware is a great example of Apple's full-stack integration, and is overlooked

I can understand that. But people who have an interest in Apple Arcade (like me) would want a bump up in storage capacity + graphics processing vs. the A10X in the current 4K hardware. And I'm sure that's not the only functionality that will get a boost from a new SoC.
Are there many games being made for the Apple TV that are pushing its GPU, or developpers that are complaining about it?  Doesn't seem liike a bottleneck to me.
Every Apple Arcade title is on the Apple TV as well as many others. So it is quite the gaming platforming, depending on who is using it. It does have minor limitations in the GPU but not a ton because it is based around processors used in the iPhones. More storage is definitely preferred though as games eat up a lot of storage.
