They are just right, because scanning private data on a user's device is not allowed in the EU.
Even if not enabled, Apple could do so without being noticed by the user.
So it's a prohibited back door.

Probably all apps will continue to be available from Apple's App Store – so the customer can choose to trust only Apple.
Choice is a good thing – Apple has just to make sure that apps from all sources run in the sandboxed environment for security.

They just should move this whole mess in the cloud, then there is no way it can be exploited on your device and people will not fear that some day this feature will be expanded for local photos.foregoneconclusion said:
Apple's User Agreement for iCloud already states that they have the right to screen the files being uploaded to iCloud servers. That's been in place for years. Personally I will not update my iPhone 12 Pro to iOS 15 (just restored back to 14.7.1 from the latest beta) and will hold the purchase of the iPhone 13 Pro (purchased a new one every single year until now) until this is sorted out.
