  • About a fifth of Android phone owners plan to switch to an iPhone

It's like asking someone who has a fake gold chain if they want a real one.
Most iKnockoff users WANT the real thing, most can't have it.

My mom hates her sh**ty iKnockoff. It lags, displays ads on the lock screen, asks for confirmation before doing anything and is a customized mess!
When it's time to buy another phone guess what she will do?
Well based on past purchases she'll just buy another iWannabe spyware machine for 50 bucks vs. a $1,000 iPhone.

I almost feel like buying her an iPhone but she destroys everything she owns.

  • After 8 years, IDC admits Apple's iPad is leading the tablet market 'unabated'

    melgross said:

I was wondering how this article should have omitted one key fact, and then I remembered this is "Apple Insider," and it made sense.  From your own numbers, about one quarter of people with tablets show that they want an iOS tablet.  Still the VAST majority of people demonstrate that they prefer an Android based tablet.  The arguments about "Well Apple makes more" should not matter at all to the consumer.  My tablet experience will not be changed at all by which company does best for its stock holders. The fact is, for some reason, the VAST majority of people who get a tablet do NOT want an iOS tablet. Most want an Android tablet.

At one time, you could argue "Well that's because Apple tablets are too expensive and people are too poor to pay the price for an Apple tablet."  Sorry, that doesn't wash anymore.  Apple now has a budget friendly $300 tablet. They've had it for a couple of years now, and it hasn't changed that inconvenient truth....that most people do NOT want and do not BUY an IOS tablet. They want and buy Android tablets.
Android tablets are dead. Go to any of the Android sites and you’ll read that. Android tablets were never successful, unless you call all of the sub $100 devices sold for toys. Samsung has major problems selling their Android models. Google has been concentrating on ChromeOS instead.

apple has about a 30% marketshare in tablets around the world, higher here. Much higher here.
Yeah I have no idea what he's smoking?

It's like suggesting more people want Android wear watches than Apple Watches.

    It's DONE.
No knockoff iPads are gonna take over. Android phones got lucky because they're given away.

  • Apple's streaming video hits iPhones, iPads, and Apple TV for free in early 2019

    “Family friendly” :D

Sorry, but don’t be in the world of being profitable, unless you’re trying to sell a gay CEO to evangelists, with family friendly content. You might as well buy the Disney Channel.

Most people are sexually suppressed, frustrated, and they seek sex and violence/power to compensate for what’s missing in their life.

Apple: get used to it, you’re a channel, not a guardian. Leave the latter to the police...
Wow someone call Disney! This guy has some marketing knowledge! If they don't listen to this guy, Disney can be out of business next week!!!!!!

People complaining about possible FREE content. I this U2 album 2.0?

If their movies hit theaters first then they can make a profit that way.

I always dreamed of free Apple TV content but IDK if this is the case here. Remember none of this is confirmed and they may have a free 90 day trial like Apple Music which may explain the "free" tag. The service being exclusive to Apple devices will still generate sales but free content would make sales go through the roof! Something Apple TV needs!
My thinking was it would be FREE as part of your Apple Music subscription. But if it's just free to sell more Apple hardware, even better. I doubt Apple is making much of a profit from Apple Music, but it helps sell more hardware. Apple is making their money from hardware. FREE Family friendly means you're now getting the kids into the act in selling more hardware. More Apple TV's and iPad's for the kids to use to watch that free kid friendly content. Not having to worry about them somehow getting into more adult type content.

A billion or so in content is nothing for Apple and would generate more sales. It's still a tiny fraction of what Netflix spends in 1 year.

About the kids not running into adult content, this problem is HUGE with Youtube and even Netflix.

Why choose?  Can’t the same “channel” show both? Restricting itself to “family friendly” mush will ensure that Apple’s video effort never challenges the likes of Netflix or Amazon. And perhaps that’s not their goal anyway. Technology solves the problem of restricting content. Shows can be rated. Kids and parents have separate logins. Add FaceID to the Apple TV and the box can detect who is watching.

Unfortunately this doesn't NOT work on Netflix!

I spent so much time trying to block Sausage Party from the kids only to find out you can't.
Netflix has this stupid(and I mean S-T-U-P-I-D) "restrict content" option that only restricts R-rated content from Netflix originals. Anything else cannot be blocked and is not blocked when you "block" it.

    What a fu**ing mess!

  • Apple TV 4K could be used by big UK cable firm as set-top box

Makes sense. Would love to see Apple TV as the default on major cable providers.

On a related note, I just bought a Sony 4K TV. It runs Android - and it’s pissing me off.

I connected it so WiFi after I bought it so I could update the software. So far so good. Then I turned WiFi off since I only intend to use it as a monitor for my existing Apple TV, STB and so on, and don’t care to have Google listening in on what I do.

So I get to the settings page and this is what I see:

    Seriously, WTF.

Why does Google want to continue to scan for WiFi networks for “location”. It’s a fucking TV - its location will never change. I like how they put “other Apps” in there as a catch all to allow pretty much anything.

So I turned both settings off and forgot about it. A couple weeks later I get a pop-up on my TV that there’s a new software update available. I’m wondering how it knows there’s a new update if I turned WiFi off and it doesn’t have a network connection. Sure enough WiFi is back on. I did the update and AGAIN turned it off.

I’m seriously pissed off this TV doesn’t respect my settings and “reactivates” WiFi on its own without my permission. I’m waiting to see if it does it again them I’m going to complain to Sony about this behavior.

I know a LOT of TVs and set top boxes are now using Android. If this is how they behave (so they can continue sucking my data) then fuck them. Apple, if they were smart, could have an opening here in making a set top box that actually respects your privacy.

Welcome to "Apple sucks! Other companies provide choice!!"

I have a Roku TV and it will not get past the setup screen. After fighting hours with it and plenty customer service calls to Roku and the TV manufacturer who BOTH kept telling me to call the other and blamed each other, I just stopped trying. My Apple TV 4K turns on my TV and controls it just fine without that mess that is Roku.
You should have returned the TV for an exchange since it's not operable. I much prefer Roku (built-in) over ATV.
It's operable and I watch it to this day. The Roku part was inoperable.

When I called Roku they told me to contact the TV manufacturer and when I call the TV manufacturer they blame Roku.

I don't need the Roku after trying Roku at my friends house. WHAT A MESS!

  • CBC Video claims Apple's repair policies are abusive, but 'proof' falls far short

Apple being #1 in customer satisfaction isn't enough huh?

    Repairgate?
