I don't mind USB-C for anything other than iPads or iPhones. Newer iPads already use USB-C, but I'd like to see Apple keep it off the iPhone for as long as possible. I'm good with Lightning.

It wouldn't and couldn't happen, but I'd like to see Apple say FU to the EU — "USB-C?? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' USB-C!" Not gonna happen though. The EU is too big of a market, so if Apple can't get around them, say "hi" to in on the phone.

Why? not trying to start a flame war here but, you have iPads and presumably already have usb-c chargers and cables. You are really so eager to carry one more cable?. I get the point about distaste for bureaucracies dictating terms to private companies. But why would you be opposed to it personally?

What will you say in 5 years when Apple or the industry comes up with a far superior standard but it takes another 5 years for the bureaucracy to get off their collective butts and pass legislation?

I didn't say I am fan of "bureaucracies dictating terms to private companies" Just that I am glad not having manage one more cable.  Personally though I believe apple was going to do it on its own (timeline) given that the wireless charging hasn't made the necessary progress to completely replace the wired variety.  Before anybody asks that's based on the fact that all mac's and all ipad's now are already on usb-c

  • Developers are abandoning Android apps, and users may be at risk

It probably is also a function of how much more stringent app store approval process is compared to play store.

Give it to your teenage kid and see there face drop……
My just turned teenager kid prefers Android but not for the reasons you might expect.
    ...
So google's parental controls gave him an option to turn off parental controls after he turned a teenager whereas apple didn't .

Now that Jony Ive has left, why does Apple still not give enough ports to the computers?

They actually want people to be in dongle hell.

Provide another USB-C port on the right … would have been great.

Other then the position of the ports, I think the rest of this upgrade is wonderful.
Apple has exactly what you want: it's called a MacBook Pro 14" or 16'. But if you want the much thinner, lighter and cheaper Air, you have to give up one port. That's called a first world problem. The new Air provides an extra charging port that the previous model did not have, but if you're stilll in dongle hell with two free ports because of all the plug-in peripherals you use, I"m not sure why you'd be using a mass market laptop in the first place.
Yes its unreasonable to expect any more ports than they provided. But I still wish they provided the second port on the right side! Oh well you can't have everything....

NGL though when GM sent me an e-mail with all of the places I had been in the year, it was creepy as ****. I try to not use GM any more than I have to for that reason alone.
It sure is creepy. But you can & should turn location history off even if you don't use GM anymore.
