Only 4% of iOS users in US are opting in to ad tracking, report says
frantisek said:It would be interesting to know if one would allow some app that would like to support if thanks to my identifier will my data ends up in Facebook database anyway as I guess they will by trying to get data from anywhere and maybe exchanging them with other ad networks.Has anyone clue? Its possible that the app has a facebook tracker on it.Even if they don't, it still doesn't mean the trackers on the app will not be used to advertise to you on facebook. It quite likely will be through a network of data brokers....

Google starts funneling Chrome users into groups to ease targeted advertising
dewme said:I agree with the EFF on this. This sounds more like a classification and categorization scheme that will streamline Google's ability to sell more tailored packages to their customers. The FLoCs sound like they are categories created by behavioral monitoring/snooping on users using web browsers. If you devote 90% of your browsing activity looking up information about cat pajamas, you might get thrown into a FLoC defined for “people who have a high interest in cat pajamas.” Google can then offer incentives for sellers of cat pajamas to get hooked up with individuals in the cat pajama lovers FLoC.Maybe I’m oversimplifying this, but I don’t see how this does much of anything to improve privacy, other than putting you in a herd with ‘n' other people, which reduces your exposure to 1/n, assuming no additional fingerprinting techniques are employed. Not defending google here. But while what you are saying is essentially true, the third party cookie system while looking similar hides a massive infrastructure in the background on different servers. For e.g. if you the servers are able to track you across websites if you log into one of the websites with your email id they can link you to your cookies with your email id. If you use your email id while signing up for any loyalty program your cookies can be linked to your purchase history in that store... and so on.But then again this could also be argued that all google is doing here is shutting out its competitors in the ad targeting space. Also as mentioned before there is nothing preventing sites from employing different fingerprinting techniques. -
Apple nailed the transition to M1 Apple Silicon. Why are so many Mac developers blowing it...
Are we are getting a little impatient? May be the transition is going at a pace it can be expected for such a big architecture change. As mentioned in the article Apple's transition has been a spectacular success beyond expectation. Its possible not everybody anticipated that and as mentioned in the article Rossetta 2 is working very well. In all fairness companies can have their own priorities in terms of features and other stuff. Tech migrations are not the most favorite thing too for developers...
