  • Porting operating systems to Apple Silicon leagues harder than migrating software

I don't think there is much here which wasn't known before for anyone who's been following this..  One can only hope that at some point in future Apple will share the documentation needed to natively boot linux. I read in this forum about Apple supporting PPC linux back in the PPC days. So its not completely unfounded.
Regarding using the current M1 Macs for work, like many in these forums I am a server side developer and being able to test the applications on docker containers running locally is essential. I am still not clear if ARM or Intel based VMs will be available on M1 Macs or if it will even make that big a difference.  Having a personal server to test applications which will be deployed on intel server is a workaround but not a convenient one.  I am waiting to see how things will turn out. But given that there is large crowd of dedicated developer community I am sure Apple will come up with some workable solution.

  • Kuo: Redesigned MacBook Pro models with MagSafe, no Touch Bar, more ports coming in Q3

Both are welcome but I have a my doubts about magsafe coming back. Removing an unpopular feature (apologies to the touch bar aficionados) is one thing. Bringing back an old port in my opinion is no Apple style....

  • Tim Cook responds to Facebook's attack ads with tweet about privacy

Apple may have its own reasons for doing this. But the main reason it is doing it now is getting overwhelming support for it is that Facebook has been eating the lunch of very small businesses it claims to be advocating for. From the days of purchasing direct advertisements on websites to today's 'programmatic' ad industry, ever increasing share of the ad money has been going to players like Facebook and other dependents in eco system. That leaves pittance to the small business with them unable to run their business purely on ad money. So now if Apple disrupts this industry, many small businesses may feel like they are not missing out on much even if its going to bite them.

  • Apple hits back at Facebook, says new iOS 14 ad tracking rules provide user choice

I am very much on Apple's side on this and want Apple to go ahead with this. It is worth considering that there is an entire industry (including may be Apple Insider) which is dependent at least partly on revenue from targeted advertisements. But, most sites already had to diversify their revenue models as Facebook's and Google's and all the other players in the ecosystem eat away every growing percentage of the pie. That probably is what made this change inevitable. Most industry estimates are predicting that this will completely cripple the targeted advertising industry with drastic drop in the amount of data available.
It begs the question on, why/how the industry was allowed to be built on backs of privacy of the rest of us.  Apple actions here though belated are an extremely important steps in reining back this industry. But expect drastic changes once this change is fully implemented. Oddly enough Facebook's and Google's and other big players will survive this. It is the smaller players who wear bear the brunt of it at least in the short run.

  • Apple's M1 MacBook Air smashes Windows on ARM in new benchmarks

While this is nothing unexpected. I am hoping the spectacular debut of M1 processor will drive the entire industry towards ARM processors. But expect the rest of the industry to take a few years to come anywhere near what Apple has managed.
